I normally give a rating of 6 but not this time , only 5. The manager saved this from being a much worse rating. My son and I booked Cote for lunch last Saturday for 12 noon. As it happened we arrived slightly early , around 11:40 / 11:45 and the manager greeted us warmly and handed us the lunch menus. After about 5 mins we ordered some drinks - a very pleasant waiter took our drinks order - then after a few more minutes , at 11;53 am ( I checked the time ) we asked to order our meals. A different ,extremely surly , waiter said that lunch didn't start until 12 noon and we'd have to order from the breakfast menu which he brought us - as if we would have ordered wine with breakfast!! The manager then reappeared - we were extremely disgruntled - and said that , of course , we could place our orders since it was so close to noon. He also offered not to charge for our drinks. Had the waiter had any sense he'd have done the same as the manager , and saved the restaurant , at the least , the price of two drinks. My wife and I go to Cote in Reigate regularly and had the manager not stepped in as he did last Saturday it would have been my last visit. Having said that , my son and I visited Reigate again today but decided to try a different restaurant which I wouldn't have agreed to had it not been for this experience. So my loyalty to Cote has been tested.
Hi - I would like to say first that we did enjoy our experience at cote - the flavours were excellent and the service very good and attentive. I do have a few criticisms/observations. Asparagus soup - this came out way too hot - suspect this was heated in the microwave for too long, had to be left for several minutes before it could be eaten and my partner had finished his started by the time I could eat the soup. On my partner's started - Grilled Sardines. By its description - we were expecting at least 2, perhaps 3 sardines given that the plural was used in the menu. However - what was served was one sardine - filleted and then each fillet cut into two to give 4 pieces of one single sardine. This does not qualify as grilled sardines!! It was also a small sardine - given the very thin nature of each sardine fillet. While this was very flavoursome - it did not justify the stated menu cost. We both had the chicken with Sarladaise potatoes - again very tasty - but the chicken was overcooked and tending towards dryness - a couple of minutes less would have been better. Our creme caramels were absolutely delicious and we will gladly be returning- but I doubt we will have the sardines again given the portion size. Finally - the restaurant was particularly empty at 6.45pm - so it was a little disappointing that having been given a window table with no-one close to us - a few minutes later another group were seated right next to us when they could easily have been placed at least one table away given the number of free tables - which would have given both us and them more privacy. I booked this Valentine's meal a couple of weeks prior to the day . We arrived at the restaurant and were seated by the window after asking .This was a good start . I was very surprised not to see any flowers on any of the tables . Service we was good and attentive , unfortunately the Duck was off the menu (sold out ) apparantl by 8pm ! My wife had specifically looked forward to the Duck . We had eaten steak the previous evening and my wife did not fancy it again . The manager dealt with this very well , my wife had Sea Bass despite it not being on the menu . Whilst we enjoyed the food and the service at this restaurant there was no music , no valentine decor and no feeling of a sense of the occasion . This could have been just any night of the week and could have been easily remedied with a simple table centre , maybe some valentine decor but at the very least some background music . This will not prevent us dining at Cote again but maybe not for this special occasion . I also felt that a small token gift or chocolate or similar for the lady / partner would have made a nice impression .
We were seated straight away, all waitresses very friendly and the whole ambience of this Cote Brasserie is lively and inviting. We were offered chilled water without the need to ask. All glassware was sparkling clean as were the cutlery. Extremely clean table and cloth napkin. We ordered a bottle of red wine which appeared efficiently. Our order of steak was taken politely and the waitress took trouble to tell us steak is cooked to order and will be 15 minutes, this is exactly what happened. Could not fault service or politeness. We can see why the Reigate Cote is busy {only a few empty tables}. We dined at 1.30 and on our departure around 3.00 the restaurant was still busy. Excellent dining experience. Will definitely recommend to family and friends. Well done all staff Cote Brasserie Reigate.
After my previous experience at the Cote in St Martin's Lane, London - when there had been some misunderstanding of the special January offer of a complimentary bottle of wine with the booked meal - I was most impressed with the service and especially the quality of the food. The prompt and efficient manner in which my previous experience had been dealt with by the Customer service management (thank you Daryl) coupled with the dining experience at the Cote in Reigate, made for a very happy evening all round. The only reason for not awarding the 6/6 score would be because the customers' coat stands, which were overloaded with coats were too close to our dining position. Two coats fell off onto my wife as she was dining: this however I would imagine could be easily remedied by the local manager. Many thanks for your consideration; I will certainly come again; now that I know how good it can be. Ian D. West Sussex
The food was delicious , from the olives and the bread through to starters , mains and desert ! Although there were a couple of things that went wrong this did not spoil our evening because of how well the staff dealt with everything , the service and attention we got was superb , I could not fault them , they moved us at our request as we weren’t happy with our table and they were so cheerful and happy to accommodate any request we made as we had a vegetarian and a non dairy guest in our party of four. There was a mix up with one of our dishes at it came with meat on it but they dealt with this very well . This was our 2nd visit as we loved the food after our first visit and the service. Thank you team Reigate you were great !
