Good reliable food, superb waiter who was great with our children. Risotto was delicious as was the steak frites. My children enjoyed their dinners as did my husband. Many thanks
Well run and very good staff. A mix up with the welcoming free bottle of wine. The Cotes seem to operate in different ways in different parts of the country. Not totally happy with the food but these where sorted out very professionally.
The staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. They were especially careful to make sure that a gluten-free guest was dealt with appropriately. She felt confident that her needs would be catered for and this was one of the reasons why we were making a return visit.
We enjoyed our lunch the food on their set menu was excellent and the service attentive. We will go again as will the couple who accompanied us.
Gorgeous brunch! Catered well for a group of 7. Warm welcome. Want to return for lunch / dinner. Wished there was one in the north east
Great setting, excellent food and fabulous service. We were given an amuse bouche of concentrate tomato soup that was just so full of flavour it set the taste buds alight and was a brilliant start to the meal. The Breton chicken was so delicious and moist with a simply lovely flavour. All the food was delicious and well cooked and presented and the service was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. A nice touch with the Calvados to finish was that they warmed the glass to perfection which is something most restaurants just don’t even bother with in this country. Will definitely be visiting again soon.
The food and service was excellent. We had a full three courses which was reasonably priced. I will go again and recommend to friends and family.
Excellent service, excellent food. There was nothing about the evenig that was below the high standards that I have come to expect from this restaurant.
Fantastic food and really food value. 3 courses and2 drinks including a glass of champagne for under £30. We will definitely be back very soon!
As always we found the staff friendly and helpful, patient ( we met with people we hadn't seen for some time and were talking so much we ignored our staff for quite a while!) , and the food delicious (loved the chicken and roasted vegetables) and suooerb value for money.
Great ambiance, wonderful delicious brilliant food. Staff were very attentive, service great. Good value for money. We will definitely come back again when we are in York
Always can be recommended Received a complimentary drink, mis en bouch & small birthday treat. Staff shuffled some tables about and were helpful and courteous
Excellent meal as always food and wine were both good value and tasted good. Thank you for the complimentary coffees to mark my friends birthday!
Always enjoy our visits. Simple, fresh well prepared food served by a cheerful staff. Disappointed some promised specials not available. We will return, fixed menu is best value in town
Excellent food and service . We had the three courses for £12.95 and what great value. We had the egg be edict then opulent chaser and steak frites followed by peach crumble. They were cooked very well and not a scrap was left ! We have never had a bad meal at different Cotes we have visited.
Warm welcome at the door. Opted for very good value set 3 course menu. Calamari & then lovely sea bass fillet. Finished with a dark chocolate pot. Beautiful bottle of Viognier. A good meal around.
Another excellent visit - the lunch to early evening offer is great value. Egg benedict was an unusual but very nice starter as was the mackerel. Praise for the Duck confit and the chicken - desserts were as reliable as ever. Will be back
Not a bad reception, bit slow on service, and attention to detail, restaurant was quiet, and I always find staff seem to get a little slow, it was my first visit to you, not to say I won't give another go, but it would not be my first choice, felt we could have had far more info re Menu when we arrived.
Once again we return to Cote. As always the staff are so polite and helpful. The food is always superbly presented and absolutely delicious. Quality food, reasonable prices and excellent service. That's why were turn. Simple.
Cote Basserie -York is part of the Cote chain and meets the same consistently high standards and quality of the group. The service is very good (we were having white wine and the waiter chilled the glasses with ice) and the food and drinks are typical French with quality flavours. Recommend the steak frites and the breton chicken as good examples. We will return.
Beautiful food and service was lovely didn't bother you too much so could get on and have a lovely meal. Would go back without a doubt.
Dined here Saturday evening. We opted for the celebration menu. Crab mayo starter was delicious. I followed this with the sea bass - equally good. Perfectly cooked. I ended with one of my favourite desserts, crème caramel - wonderful. I certainly recommend eating here. The restaurant was very busy but the staff were attentive without being obtrusive.
Excellent service , polite staff and great food as always . The beef is delicious , best around . Varied menu with specials which is great for locals
Excellent food and service- really enjoyable experience again.great menu and ambience - shown straight to table and given attentive service all evening. Waiter was great without being too invasive.
Great restaurant especially recommend the set meal available before 7pm. One of best places to eat in York among the major chains. Not usually over busy eitger
Lovely meal,as always, after our son's graduation. Great waiter, can't remember his name but I know that he used to go to St. Peter's School. Thank you.
Great food here again I had pork belly which was lovely and tasty. They have a full gluten free menu which is spot on for wife is celiac.

A really lovely atmosphere, very friendly and attentive staff. We have been here a couple of times now and thoroughly enjoyed it every time. Very happy we chose here for my graduation meal, would highly recommend.
Excellent food and service. We come to this restaurant regularly and consistently get good food. Great evening. Staff are very attentive and generally friendly. We will be back again soon. Thankyou
Beautiful food and fab service worth a visit and revisit. Had the anniversary menu and it was lovely with good selection to choose from and fast service and worth every penny.
Set lunch menu £12,95? for 3 courses.... absolutely gorgeous... good ambiance....tasty and flavoursome food....good service... attentive but not intrusive... would chose Cote in York every time.... family occasion, meal for two, group celebration.
Good, tasty food in pleasant surroundings. Service was a little hit and miss. Didn't like the fact that for a table of 4 a service charge was added to the bill.
Food was very nice. However our waiter was extremely miserable and didn't smile once. Good location in the Shambles with the Minster being 30 seconds walk!
Wonderful food, we had the early bird menu which is very good value for money. The food was lovely and the staff were very friendly
Really great service and lovely food. Particularly good with our little one (5 years old), who enjoyed the sausage and mash. Good selection of dishes on the menu, and good wine selection too.
There was fantastic atmosphere. Food and wine was excellent. Professional service. Portions of ideal volume, you will not go out overfull or hungry. Nothing bad to say.
Very good set menu but prefer service charge left to discretion, like to Sit at the front of the restaurant because it has more atmosphere
I had previously ate in your restaurant in Wimbledon village and really enjoyed it. My husband is a chef and was very impressed with the food and service there. I went with my daughter to York and she loved the food as much and me. However the first waiter we had I felt uncomfortable with, wasn't as professional as I expected. However another man replaced him who was very nice. My first kir was very weak but the second I asked for had more cassis in.
We went for breakfast at about 10.15 Sunday morning. The food was up to the usual excellent standard. On the downside there appeared to be only two front of house staff on duty which made it difficult to attract there attention.
