Dale Lodge Hotel and Restaurant has reinvented a gorgeous (but previously rundown) Grasmere manor into one of the Lake District’s most sought-after dining destinations. It’s really two destinations – Tweedies Bar and The Lodge Restaurant – but both offer high quality cuisine, produced by renowned Cumbrian chef James Goodall using prime local and British ingredients. Tweedies Bar fills up quickly, and it’s not wise to waltz into The Lodge and expect a table given how popular Dale Lodge has become, so make a booking early and look forward to a superb meal that blends refined British pub traditions with contemporary European cuisine. The menu changes often, but one thing any lover of quality pork has to try at Dale Lodge (which is just off the corner of Red Bank and Broadgate in Grasmere, in case you have trouble locating it) is the Cumbrian pig showcase: homemade black pudding, fondant potato, pork loin wrapped in prosciutto ham, savoy cabbage, apple puree, crispy crackling and jus.
