More about the restaurant: Champagne Charlies

Covent Garden’s Champagne Charlies, one of London’s best wine bars, is hidden along Villiers Street under the brick railway arches of nearby Charing Cross station. Exuding old world charm, to enter Champagne Charlies is to enter a bygone era, evoked by the antiquarian curios scattered about this low-ceilinged, old-world drinking establishment. As with other members of the Davy’s wine bar stable, Champagne Charlies also showcases the best of fine British cuisine.

Thinking about making a Champagne Charlies booking?

Champagne Charlies in Covent Garden does not disappoint. One of the delights of London exploration is to find a hidden gem tucked away in some less-than-likely spot. London’s ancient, winding streets and stop-start, organic urban landscape are a haven for such treasure troves, and we’re pleased to say that Champagne Charlies is one such spot. Found in The Arches of Charing Cross, along Villiers Street, Champagne Charlies is a wine bar first and foremost. Fans of real ale will not be disappointed, though, with a great selection of ales served in pewter jugs. It’s all traditional in here, with the decor all exposed wooden beams supporting a cosily low ceiling, stripped-back brick walls lined with antiquarian objects of fascination. A venerable spot perfect for a fine wine tasting session.

Champagne Charlies’ Villiers Street premises – under The Arches of Charing Cross – are also perfect for private hire. Several enclosed side-rooms of the old-school glass-panelled booth variety are ideal for small-group dining, but the whole joint can be booked out, too. And, if you’re out for some London theatre and need a pre-show meal, Covent Garden’s Champagne Charlies offers a great value two-course meal between 5 and 7pm. All Davy's Champagne Charlies dishes are British classic, brought up to date by the restaurant’s executive chef using only fresh, seasonal, and locally-sourced produce.
