Serving up contemporary twists on American classics, Free State Kitchen is a hip burger joint and American kitchen, aptly situated on Maryland Street in the Georgian Quarter. Located just a short walk from both Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University, Free State Kitchen is a favourite among the city’s student population, the perfect place for a post-lecture feast. Start off with some Maryland crab cakes, some sticky sausage links or the buffalo hot wings, before sinking your teeth into The American Cheeseburger, the Herby Chicken Burger, The Free State Dog or The Clam Sam (Old Bay seasoned fried clams and mixed seafood in a poppy seed roll with Free State Kitchen’s kicking tiger sauce, lettuce, tomato and onion. Awesome. Double French is the best burger in Liverpool, hands down.
This was the perfect place to take our son returning to University with exams ahead. Great food he likes and relaxed atmosphere plus value for money.
Fabulous restaurant. Seated 15 of us for a special get together including 9 children. Excellent food and even modified the menu for one of our kids. Lovely warm welcoming staff and relaxed atmosphere. Cant wait to return.
Excellent service for a big group of 15 diners - all very slick with no compromise on food quality. I would recommend Free State Kitchen for larger groups - staff are friendly and accommodating.
The staff are brilliant, so friendly and the service is fantastic. The food is delicious! I recommend the double French burger - garlicy oniony goodness! I only warn that when they say burgers are served pink they mean PINK I had to cut some bits out of the middle as they looked far too uncooked for me personally, so if you're a bit squeamish ask for it to be cooked all the way through :) But that's not a criticism of the restaurant just personal preference.
We booked a table at FSK after a matinee at The Everyman theatre, 2 adults and 2 x 13 year old girls, the staff are very welcoming and on requesting if the younger members could share a starter and main they accommodated this by sharing a mac cheese on two plates and the same with the burger, the food was lovely and we would recommend and will be back.
Excellent meal, which to go for hot dogs or burger. I went classic cheeseburger good choice but guys who went dogs great also. A must have is chicken wings Peng good. Lovely staff, great eats in heart of Hope street nothing not to like all good. Oh forgot chips wow the best in years.
Fabulous afternoon spent in the gorgeous garden to celebrate my graduation. I wa swith six family members who had never been before, but all said they will be back, small wonder as the food is amazing, service is top notch and the owners are just lovely!
Love the food here, nice service, relaxed environment and good price. Brought my american family this time, pleased to say the loved it. I particularly love the onion rings! The mint choc with your tea or coffee finishes it off really nicely. Always happy to come back here.
We got there at 6pm and there were 2 other tables occupied so service was quick and the team were attentive and friendly. The seasoning levels of the food I found strange, my friend's spicy buffalo wings had no kick, my chicken burger had so much seasoning in it smelled like a spliff and everybody's rosemary fries were too salty. Don't know if its an American thing, but I'm afraid we won't be going back based on the food.
