South London is an awfully long way away from South Korea, but when you make an appearance at Han Bar & Restaurant in the heart of New Malden, you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in Seoul rather than Surbiton. They offer Korean classics – the barbecue is, of course, the star of the show – and karaoke in the bar, so make a move to the High Street for a superb night out. Don’t fly Han solo – gather all your mates up and head on over to New Malden for a Korean feast to remember. Book a table now.

Always a great service at Han, the food is really nice and the staff are very polite and friendly.
An interesting place. Food ok. Service chaotic with young inexperienced staff.
The service as poor as expected. It was my second time to visit. The young Korean lady waitress was unfriendly and not helpful as when I asked for some soy sauce for my glass noodles and was told off it’s already in the noodles. Good thing the manager sent me a soy sauce when I asked the second time. There was only one ladies toilet working and it wasn’t that clean. I won’t recommend this restaurant/karaoke. We did enjoy the karaoke despite the food experience.
Seoul is as well regarded a dining destination as any in the world, with Korean cuisine going from strength to strength in the estimations of the world’s foodies. While it might not be possible to visit The Land of the Morning Calm, New Malden is the heart of London’s Korean community, so go where they go: that means Han Bar & Restaurant on the High Street. There is a karaoke, of course, spread across 6 singing-specific rooms, and a cocktail lounge, but the most important thing is the menu, and at Han, it certainly doesn’t disappoint.
The speciality is Korean BBQ, unsurprisingly, and Han can offer a range of set menus that can suit any taste in grilled meats. Beef comes as galbisal ribs, bulgogi, ribeye and tongue, as well as chicken, sliced pork belly and a huge range of seafood. Add to this a selection of sides to behold – try the kimchi, which is proper Korean strength – and you’re well on the way to a great night out in New Malden. Take the train to the eponymous train station and wander around the corner to Han on the High Street for one of the best Korean meals in South London.
