More about the restaurant: The Kashmir
These are big words in an area where curry is a way of life, but The Kashmir has the best Indian food in the Cotswolds. It depends who you ask, of course, but this welcoming eatery on Albion Street in the town centre is the pride of Cheltenham, so many locals will not even consider a challenger to that crown. The Kashmir is casual and fuss-free, the kind of place you can breeze in and out or chill out over a quick meal, but the food makes you want to hang around all day. If ever an Indian restaurant deserved a reservation, it’s now, it’s The Kashmir.

One of many reasons why The Kashmir is so popular among those in Cheltenham who know their peshwari from their keema is its effortless cool. Both the exterior and the interior of this Indian restaurant are dark and elegant, and the low-lighting inside helps to create an atmosphere ideal for sampling the very best of the Indian kitchen. By that we mean when you’re comfortable and relaxed, your tastebuds come into their own. The Kashmir sits very proudly on Albion Street in the very centre of town where a truly impressive menu is ready and waiting.
With whole spices and fresh herbs (rather than curry powders and supermarket packets common elsewhere) permeating throughout, The Kashmir’s long menu has heartwarming Indian and Anglo-Indian favourites (the vindaloo wakes you up without killing your taste buds, and their range of baltis is as good as anywhere) as well as a selection of specialty signature dishes – we particularly recommend the succulent salmon-e-salon, the superb Bangladeshi desi machli for fish lovers, as well as the chicken anarkali, a whole chicken breast stuffed with medium spiced lamb mince and then roasted in the tandoor and served in a special sauce.
