Dishing up creative Italian meals in a cosy, indoor-outdoor setting on Lewis Street, La Brasseria Italiana is hard to beat if you’re looking for a fun, satisfying Italian meal in Monmouthshire. Situated in a beautiful historic building, La Brasseria Italiana has a cosy atmosphere during the winter, while in summer its outdoor area is packed with people enjoying the relaxed vibe, fine wines and superb traditional food from the south of Italy. For the full experience we recommend the branzino al sale, a whole roasted sea-bass theatrically served and deboned at the table, accompanied by fresh vegetables. For something more familiar try the bistecca alla griglia, an extra mature Welsh ribeye steak grilled to perfection and drizzled with peppercorn sauce, or test out La Brasseria Italiana’s twist on a tasty insalata tricolore, using avocado mousse. Whatever you’re in the mood for, if it’s Italian then this is likely your safest bet in Abergavenny.
We were warmly welcomed upon arrival, and our waitress was most attentive all evening. The regional food was unusual, delicious, and beautifully presented, and the chef was helpful in explaining the various dishes on offer. A very pleasant experience and we will most certainly be going again.
