It’s a fantastically gourmet offering here, with the names of the dishes and drinks screaming eat me, drink me and following through with proper creative flavours. Rest assured, there’s not a meatshake available here yet, anyhow. With dishes for veggies and vegans, as well as halal meat on offer – this spot really does tick all the boxes!
If everything else fails, the burger will still stand. An appropriately staunch motto for a top ranking London burger restaurant. However, that motto would be meaningless if Meat & Shake Tooting London’s gourmet burgers weren’t built on a solid foundation. Thankfully, what makes it between the buns at this Tooting burgeria is nothing but the best: 35-day dry-aged British beef, freshly ground in the kitchen at Meat & Shake’s Upper Tooting Road premises. Of course, there’s more than just beef-in-a-bun stacks (e.g. the Truffle Shuffle, Smoking Bandit, Von Longhorn, Luchador…) available here. The Ruby Murray burger is a novel combination of tikka masala sauce and seasoned chicken breast, Monterey Jack cheese, red chillies, coriander, yoghurt and a poppadom! Yes, Meat & Shake Tooting London have taken the UK’s true national dish – chicken tikka masala – and put it in a burger.
Steaks are another founding principle at Meat & Shake as well as the availability of halal meat, with a growing selection of thickly sliced fine cuts, including free-range ribeye and a ridiculously ambitious Tomahawk steak, clocking in at an unadulterated 1700g. Be sure to give this superlative London burger joint 48 hours notice when you book if you want to (somehow) eat this beast. We recommend bringing a friend, and a defibrillator. But of course the lads and lasses in Meat & Shake’s Upper Tooting Road kitchen couldn’t resist putting a steak in something besides their bellies, coming up with a classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich consisting of flash-grilled Bavette steak, gravied up to mushrooms, onions and peppers in a roll. God bless America. And, no truly American burger restaurant, even if it is in southwest London’s Tooting Bec, would be complete without a milkshake list with such perennial favourites as vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and salted caramel. Thing is, these guys have shaken things up a bit to introduce future classics like fig and cinnamon, pistachio and marshmallow, an affogato-like coffee concoction, and rotating guest milkshakes to boot.
