Three of us visited, we all had different starters and main courses and everyone of them was really tasty and delicious. It was a Saturday evening and the atmosphere was buzzing. It feels this restaurant is back to its previous very good form.
We have stayed at this hotel many times over the last 7 years and the improvements over the time has always been for the best for all guests staying at this establishment.
This is a really good venue for enjoying an Indian meal.
Delicious food, attentive service and a warm welcome, I recommend Mela 👍
Amazing food. We never fail to have a great meal at Mela. Staff are very friendly and offer an excellent service. Will certainly be returning to Mela for a meal.
This was our first time at Mela and it won't be our last. Service was excellent as well as the food which was nice & hot (Not spicy hot) prices were quite reasonable too. We were told they also did a take out service so we took one of their menus for future use. Spotless bathroom facilities. The only downside I would mention is there is a flight of stairs to get to restaurant I couldn't see disabled access for anyone who needs it. Overall we'll definitely go back.
We had to wait 1/2 an hour for a table, no drinks offered while we waited. Table was nicely presented and drinks served at the table. Staters were good, but the time taken to serve the main courses took to long meaning the first out was cold by the time the last came out. This somewhat tainted the evening as we were entertaining friends & had billed Mela as a premium curry house. Would think twice about going again
Of the 4 starters ordered, only the onion bargee represented vfm. The mixed grill platter, chicken shashlik, & sheek kebab were very small portion sizes for the cost. One main was ordered & stated twice with no coriander....it came with coriander. As for the flavour, none of the meals could be faulted, but again, £8.95 for 6 small pieces of lamb in the lamb jalfrezi was not vfm. However, the overriding factor for such low score was after finishing our starters at approx. 20:35, & asked by a waiter if we wanted to wait for our mains - to which we replied "no, we'll have them now", by 21:25 there was still no food. After asking a waiter if there was any danger we might get some, the usual "it's just on it's way" was the reply. I again asked another waiter for our food & stated we had been waiting nearly an hour, to which he said "it's not been that long, you've only just had your starters" to which he received a not very polite reply to go away. This restaurant was far more interested in the money spending birthday party at a nearby table to the detriment of the rest of us. It's not the first time our party of 4 have been to Mela, but it was definitely the last. Back to the trusted Bangla Lounge from now on.
We first visited Mela in November last year. Lovely food and excellent service. Mela is the only place we go now when we want a curry in a restaurant. Highly recommend.
Early evening meal with our daughter who's just started at Birmingham Uni. Thought she might need a good meal!! She didn't get a good meal - she got an excellent meal. Menu was a bit different. I had the lamb from their speciality page - beautiful. Really tender meat and full of flavour. Could easily miss restaurant as single doorway with restaurant upstairs. Don't let entrance put you off as dining area very upmarket. Totally recommend.
