Nazrul, situated in the heart of Brick Lane, is truly a London legend. Opening its doors as one of the first curry houses on Brick Lane in 1979, this award-winning South Asian restaurant’s original purpose was to serve the large surrounding Bangladeshi community. Today, this eatery is beloved by Londoners of all walks of life. Situated in Shoreditch, its location is easily accessible by public transport, and it’s the ideal location for a bite to eat after perusing the nearby shops.
Featuring two large floors, there’s enough space at this Brick Lane Indian eatery to feed an army. Perfect for celebrations or gatherings, the staff at Nazrul pride themselves on the restaurant’s success, and that is apparent through their friendly and confident manner. Claiming to be the oldest restaurant in Brick Lane and the winners of the 2013 Brick Lane Master Chef competition, Nazrul asserts itself through the region not with aggression, but with a legendary reputation. Still not sure what all the hype’s about? Simply put, it’s the food. Although the service, ambience and location are great features, it’s the masterfully created Indian dishes that stand out above all. For starters, select from a variety of kebabs or take a hot bowl of mulligatawny soup. Decide between rogan dishes made with tomatoes and garlic, Ceylon delights made with a coconut milk base, or vindaloo specialties served spicy with potatoes. Think you can handle the heat? Then order any of the phall dishes. But be warned, these are the spiciest options on the menu. Because of its legendary status, it’s a good idea to book online with Quandoo for a table at Nazrul on Shoreditch’s Brick Lane.
Good atmosphere and excellent food...as always. We felt a little hurried after being there an hour from 7-8 on a Saturday night. Looking forward to our next visit.
Absolutely fabulous meal with big family gathering. They made us feel really welcome, treated us as Royalty and dished up absolutely wonderful food. Our 'host', Rob, was especially attentive and delivered up a birthday surprise off the cuff! Made the evening really special. Nazrules O.K. as they used to say when I went there back in the 80's. They've still got that little something extra that makes The Nazrul stand head and shoulders above all the other restaurants in Brick Lane.
The staff were extremely friendly and attentive . Service was quick and the food was delicious When we mentioned the 20% discount for booking on line the bill was altered without question. We will definitely return.
Excellent food and very good service, enjoyed the atmosphere, it was a very busy Saturday night, but having pre booked the staff were excellent in making our visit very enjoyable
Excellent food and service, very friendly, worth the 200 miles we travelled from Lincolnshire, well we were also visiting family in Surrey, would recommend this restaurant very highly, also very reasonable priced, well done to all that served us and cooked for us,and as there was 13 of us to cook for, every meal was top class, once again well done, probes will be back again in June.
Thought I had booked the ‘oldest restaurant on Brick Lane’. Disappointed to be actually whisked next door but one, to a different building with the name Cinnamon.. Food was okay, poppadums don’t come with lime pickle which would have offered a boost to the sweetness of all the other dips. The lamb starter was tough and needed a steak knife, the main was however just above average, delightfully succulent chicken special.. If i had ordered takeout and this came I would be thrilled, for a special night out though? Think again I say..
The restaurant was excellent as usual. The food and service was great. Unfortunately, they were not ready for us when we arrived and made us wait outside in the rain. They then tried to take us to a restaurant two doors down and put us downstairs. Luckily, I had read about this on Tripadvisor and would not accept this. Real shame, because the rest of the meal was fine
We have been going to this resteraunt for over twenty years now, the food is always great, the staff are brilliant, and not only are the prices reasonable but y ou can bring your own alcahol as well! I can't wait for our next visit.
The food was really nice, and we were served quickly, however it was all a bit chaotic and rushed. I would definitely eat here again, I just feel that the waiters should give us more time to get settled and not try and talk us into ordering the mixed platter - when we have only just sat down. But I would recommend as food was lovely.
Service was appalling, food was less than ordinary. Apparently Nazrul shares its kitchen with Aladin next door, so while I booked at Aladin, I was seated at Nazrul. Grilled chicken dish was full of onions, paneer dish was laden with sweet sauce. Chicken and lamb biryanis were decent. This place is for European tourists who go to brick lane for its culture and vibrancy, not food and specially not at Nazrul. Certainly not the best Resturant as they claim.
