great food , great service , as it always is .
I've really liked this restaurant every time I've been in the past but this time was disappointing. Not only was all of our food noted on the receipt as medium spice despite requesting different spice levels (which was reflected in the taste) they also charged us 12 pounds for 6 popadoms by adding a bill for pickles alongside the popadoms(ie the sauces and 3 spiced pickles) which we did not request, and they refused to remove. I'll add that these pickles are charged per person despite the fact that all sizes of parties are given the same amount of sauces, and it is not obvious on the menu that this random charge will be applied.
Food was excellent, service was excellent. Our new favourite restaurant will definitely return
Very authentic fabulous food Lovely friendly family run restaurant We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
There didn’t appear to be any sign of our reservation. We had poppodoms, starters and for mains a dansak, pathia and a couple of chicken tikka’s - bland, bland, bland. Also wanted a pilau and several plain boiled rice. Apparently we were served all pilau - just tasted of rice with a bit of butter!! The poppodoms are very expensive - £1 each plus a £1 per person for the pickle tray. This cost us £11 for
we had an early booking at 6pm so it was quiet. Lovely food. Currently my favourite Indian in Durham.
We visited on my wife’s birthday with high hopes given the glowing reviews. However nothing could be further from the truth. I’ve been eating curry for the last thirty five years and the chicken tikka, saag bhaji and tarka dahl were the worst examples I’ve had. The food is not freshly cooked. We left the meal and no payment was taken but for the benefit of other people who might choose to dine here, please beware.
For the first time in approx 25 years I was disappointed with our dinner. We felt sorry for the one waiter who was working - he tried his best but it wasn’t what we’re used to. My husband was told not to have his Jalfrezi any more than medium - he said it was tasty but bland which was a shame. Our dhal was forgotten and definitely not worth waiting for. My son got a garlic naan rather than the plain one he ordered. When we were done eating we had to wait a significant amount of time to pay & leave. We’re not giving up though and will be back as I’m sure this was merely a bad night which even the best of restaurants have.
Enjoyed my meal here and there was a good selection of mains to choose from so you should find a dish you like to eat.
Had a lovely meal tonight of chicken tikka balti which was really good. The staff are friendly and helpful. It’s well priced in a good location but most of all the food is good.
Restaurant was cold and had a strong smell of cleaning fluid. Lacked atmosphere. Seafood biriani was generous and tasty. Lamb Roganjosh was tasty but not hot and pilau rice was craggy. Service itself was good and prices very reasonable.
Good little restaurant. Large menu. Food was good and service. Thanks
Excellent friendly service and food. Amazing balti and authentic feel.
Lovely meal for three. Attentive service & delicious food. My husband would have preferred his lamb dish hotter spice wise but the overall flavour of everything was excellent.
A firm favourite which we return to any time we’re in the area.
exceptional restaurant. wonderful service. first class food . an absolute delight.
The food was one of the worst Indians I’ve ever had. All of the curry’s tasted like they were out of the jar and there was nothing ‘tikka’ about the chicken. I honestly wish I was joking when I say I’ve had a better microwave curry. It was not saucy at all and just full of oil. The rice was grey and god knows what was in the naan - we ordered a garlic keema and think we ended up with cheese. The service was fine but the food was such a let down. First time I’ve never come out of an Indian restaurant disappointed.
Really sorry but tonight was extremely disappointing. Booked in for 7:15pm (x3 people) and received our mains at 8:40pm, after having to chase up. I know there was a large group also in the restaurant but other tables received meals well before us and I’m afraid to say that all three of our meals were quite bland. Service was also poor, the lack of any apology until we left, along with the bland meals means we won’t be returning.
Excellent service. Adam the waiter was a great guy. Would highly recommend
Went for a birthday meal with family. No wait time. Quick and friendly service and the food was fantastic. Recommended.
Delicious food, and great service. Would recommend and will return
Great food and service. Would definitely recommend. Would go again
First time trying the restruant as some reviews were a bit mixed but I found the food ok and staff pleasant so that Nate did a nice meal.
The food was OK, a bit oily and nowhere near spicy but I have certainly had worse food for that money.
Everything was good. Nice lady owner. Clean and reasonably priced.
Went due to recommendations and wasn't disappointed! Lovely food and great friendly service, well worth a look if you're in Durham and fancy a curry!
Food was stunning!! Will be back! Amazing service, lovely atmosphere
Great service and tasty food. Absolutely recommend and I will visit again!
Food was very good and service excellent, staff were so polite and funny too
The food was really nice and the staff were so friendly. The food portions were just right. The starters we had were the best we have ever had. I couldn’t recommend Shaheens enough.
Love Shaheens, best Indian in Durham by far! I go here every time family visits, they love it.
This is a great restaurant Food is excellent We are frequent visitors
As always, fantastic food and lovely knowledgable staff. That's why we keep going back!
Food was amazing, freshly prepared and tasty, would highly recommend
When we stay at Durham we always eat at Shaheens but yesterday the food was dry and we felt rushed as if they wanted us to leave as the restaurant was empty
happy welcome from attentive staff, with rapid service; food good
Really lovely meal at Shaheen's. Impeccable service and delicious food.
Disappointed, bhajis not cooked fully, curry no flavour and dryparatha wasnt a paratha should be flaky, only good thing was the papadoms.
Absolutely dreadful. Worst Indian restaurant we've been to. Curry totally bland and tasteless. All sauce and very little meat. Definitely would not recommend. Very dissatisfied.
Fantastic menu, great food, we both went for different Balti choices, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Excellent restaurant. Brilliant food and amazing staff. Thanks very much.
Food was good. The curry could use more of the curry tangy flavour. The biggest downside of the dining experience was that we felt rushed. Staff constantly pushing us for orders, asking we finished eating and then the payment.
Lovely staff and amazing food definitely well worth a visit
Fantastic food and great service. We’ll be coming back for sure.
Great food and lovely staff. Our go to Indian in Durham.
Food was really great and not greasy at all. Superb.
It was the poorest Indian food we’ve had , wouldn’t return.
Service from Adnan and food always excellent. Thank you again
We really enjoyed our visit to Shaheens, the food was delicious and the waiter was really friendly, helpful and recommended some lovely dishes for us to try! Will definitely recommend and would love to go back.
