Shaheen's Durham

Visited with my partner for my birthday celebrations. The food was so delicious. And the value for money was great! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Thanks for the birthday gift of a shot from our lovely waiter. :)

A first visit for our youngest boy who really enjoyed his balti. Of course, his brother and I very much enjoyed our food, as usual!

It is always a pleasure and delight to dine here. The team at Shaheen’s always go the extra mile to ensure you have a great experience with great food. I like the personalised recommendations in particular, which are highly valuable and introduced me to the amazing Kashmiri Malayan dish, for example.

Starters were tasty / mains disappointing asked for level ‘hot’ in spiciness and didn’t deliver (was given extra chillis as a side dish to spice it up!) not good - won’t be returning Staff not friendly at all so didn’t add to the experience - will try a different restaurant next time!

Food was tasteless and bland. The food can be cooked as mild, medium or hot. My husband chose hot but it’s only the sauce that was hot. The lamb just tasted like braised lamb as it had certainly not been marinated first. This was our first and last visit. We will stick with The Capital if eating Indian in Durham City as this never fails!

We love Shaheen’s. Has the family feel, unlike the corporate conveyor belt, chain restaurants. Food is very good.

Food above average but waiter was very morose and hardly welcoming - no place setting for customers with cutlery ‘plonked’ on the table before the food arrived. The restaurant had no atmosphere which is a shame as the food is good.

Overall experience was wonderful. Took some visiting vegan friends and weren't disappointed! For price, it would have been nice to have slightly larger portions of rice. This being said, the quality of the food was great

I had tika chicken dupiaza and it was one of the best I have ever had. The flavours was outstanding it just sent your taste buds into orbit.

Superb food and service. Really enjoyed the quality and diversity of food which we shared between 4 of us. Simple popadums with spice and sauces were excellent. Main courses were splendid and filling. Really tasty and ample.

Amazing food but the restaurant was very warm. One of the best curries I’ve had!

This is my favourite restaurant for Indian food. The flavours have depth unlike anywhere else I have been. The meat is always tender. I have been there about 4 or 5 times, now. If you're in Durham and you would like reliably good and flavourful food, I recommend it highly. I have found Adam, the boss, to be great with helping you choose what to get and what drink to pair it with. A bonus is that the service is quick. Overall, my experience can be summed up in one word: YUM!

Overall good quality ingredients and flavours, but spoilt by having too much oil (or was it ghee?) in each sauce. Waiter was rather abrupt when telling me I had to leave our little table for 2 straight away, after I had paid (and left a tip) and was just waiting for my wife to return from the loo! Additionally, the tables are just too small to fit side dishes on.

Wonder if the restaurant has changed hands as the food bore little resemblance to what we have experienced here in the past. It was very bland, one dish over salted and generally lacked the flavour normally associated with Indian food. For what we received it was overpriced so doubt I'll be back. Waiting staff seemed new too and could do with some training. Not up to standard on any level.

As always; lovely tasty food, cooked to perfection. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff. Great atmosphere. Great selection for veggies and vegans too. Wouldn't keep returning if it wasn't so good.

Small restaurant, which meant that when a large group came in and sat on the tables next to us we couldn't hear each other talking. Food was good and reasonably priced. The wait staff were absolutely faultless and definitely made the experience better all round. They definitely need to invest in a self-closing door for the entrance of the restaurant... nobody closes it behind them, which means it was really cold where we were sat, and the wait staff must have to close it a hundred times a day!

Dined on a Thursday evening, restaurant was busy but we were seated immediately and smother service was excellent. There is an extensive menu and the food was first class. I'd highly recommend this place.
