Great food, really enjoyed our meal and the staff were very friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. We will definitely be back next time we visit York.

Excellent choices on the menu for vegetarians and meat eaters. Friendly professional staff. Service was quick and efficient. The ambience is warm and welcoming. We found the total bill to be very reasonable. We would definitely make a return visit and recommend this restaurant to friends.

Was as good as it looked! Portions weren't massive but quality was great, I prefer it that way round. Beef was cooked amazingly. Maybe a few too many jalapenos but I guess you don't have to eat them all just because they're on your plate

Delicious food enjoyed by all the table. So nice to see a menu that vegans and meat eaters can enjoy equally. Our visit was accompanied with great, friendly service.

A lunchtime birthday celebration with the girls and had a fantastic time. Food delicious, excellent choice for vegetarians and service great. All in all a lovely little restaurant that I have highly recommended to friends and will certainly be returning.

Delicious food, friendly helpful staff and a comfortable seating - you couldn't ask for anything better. The city centre location is very handy but the street is quiet too.

Everything was excellent! Would 100% recommend to everyone. Very chilled, laid back feel, excellent vegetarian selection (which is incredibly rare in York) Will be returning again soon!

Extensive vegan menu, the vegan fried 'chicken' was excellent, great selection for all diets and food overall was delicious. Definitely one to revisit when in York.

My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience. I have quite a lot of food intolerances and am allergic to to sugar. The waitress was extremely attentative to my needs and we really enjoyed everything that we are. It was just a shame I couldn't have the pulled jack fruit as it had sugar in!! Thanks 😀

Very nice food and the sauce with the Vegan chicken was amazing. Nice friendly staff too. The tap water was the only thing I didn't enjoy, tasted very flouridy, would have been nicer chilled - and yes, I know, I should pay for bottled, which I usually do but the lovely waitress asked us if we wanted some for the table so I just said yes, but again, this isn't something that would make me think bad of the place, I would go back again and again.

Food was delicious - but portions were tiny (especially considering the cost). The actual restaurant is nice inside and the servers were all great. Would go again but next time will be ordering more food ;)

This is an excellent restaurant. The food was delicious, the service was very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. We had the pulled pork and chicken platters - highly recommend them both. We also really enjoyed the bottled York beers. We will be back when in York again.

This was our first visit to Source on the recommendation of a friend. We had the nachos to start with olives and bread. The bread was lovely and soft and the nachos really tasty. For main course the children had pizza and we had the pork burger and halloumi stack. All was delicious! Fantastic food, great service and a hit with the children!

A hidden gem in the heart of York owned by husband (chef) & wife (front of house). Super friendly service, amazing food to suit all tastes and diets in a really warm, cosy atmosphere. Our diverse group of 11 (cycling coast to coast) were all wowed. Willl definitely be returning.

Smaller than I thought it would be , but nice. Not a great choice of drinks. We both had the jackfruit and at £13.50 we were expecting it to be a nice plate of food. Well! It wasn't a plate of food it was a tray of food. A spoonful of jackfruit, a teaspoon of coleslaw two inch cube of corn bread and a handful of fries. All served on grease proof paper on a tray. Won't be going back.

Nice décor, service and food including a range of vegetarian options. Prices were reasonable. An enjoyable evening overall and we will very likely be back!

Food was amazing - had Aubergine and halloumi stack - not a big eater but for £11 the portion was quite small. Service was excellent - lovely girl!

Delicious food especially the puy lentil salad with pulled pork. Very friendly knowledgeable staff, excellent location near the centre of York and the Castle Museum.

Had a lovely evening at Source. The waitress was very cheerful and welcoming. She explained about GF diets as we were with a friend who required this. The menu is very good for all kinds of diets and we enjoyed the starters more than the mains but perhaps we might order something different next time! House wine very reasonably priced and easy to drink. All in all a very good experience. Thanks

Really good slow cooked food with lots of choice for vegetarians and even Vegan Chicken! Great service, they couldn't do more to accommodate us. Even with a toddler meltdown! Highchairs, colouring in and crayons for children is a nice touch. Will definitely be back if we can get a booking. It's very popular.

A small and friendly, privately owned restaurant serving a good choice of healthy eating food. The staff are welcoming and Efficient. The restaurant is very clean.

We came for a meal before seing a talk at the york royal opera house. It was our first time and I was really really impressed. Lovely staff that couldnt have been nicer, and amazing food that's very unique to what else is ok offer in York. We will definitely be back.

Tasty food with a good range of vegetarian and meaty food. Something for everyone. Only downside is that the bill can be a little on the steep side.

Source is a pretty unassuming restaurant, no big sign or lit frontage on Castlegate but ive been wanting to try this restaurant since i read a review in the Press. We werent disappointed, the restaurant has a really efficient booking system via Quandoo with reminders and guest sharing options. When we arrived we were greeted friendly and offered an option of tables, unfortunately nowhere to put our wet coats and umbrella but this isnt uncommon. The decor is really good, lots of wood and charm. There is an open kitchen but its not too noisy or smokey. The staff were excellent, there seemed to be 3 waiting staff and 3 chefs and they really did a great job since the restaurant rapidly filled to capacity at around 8pm. We had a relaxed time, never felt rushed or waited too long. The food, I had cauliflower florets with rocket and pomegranate: really imaginative but i did expect a bit more flavour, particularly from the dip, which was a bit bland. My partner had the grilled avocados, which were lovely. For main my partner had the chicken burger, which again contained avocado, shredded chicken and a very generous amount of haloumi. Everything looked homemade, the ketchup and mayonnaise included. I had the souce slow tray: a mixture of all the meats as i didnt want to miss out on trying any! Again, really good food and good portion size, not overwhelming but certainly full afterwards so we didnt try the deserts. A good range of wine and beers complimented the menu. Overall, a very good evening: well done all at Source!

Only good things to say - had yummy meal and cleared all our plates - ratatouille roulette, halloumi castle, bean salad and amazing sweet potato chips! It was also really kind of you to let us try a bottle of wine and decide that we didn't like it and choose two different glasses! Totally recommended and will be back next time we're in York - thanks for a great evening!
