The Bank is a premier dining destination just over the bridge and down Durham Rd from central Newcastle and Gateshead. But the locals of Lowfell may not want too many people finding about their favourite spot, housed in a beautiful old stone building that has stood since 1840, formerly housing the local bank. This is where the Bank gets its name, and the surrounding regions are where the Bank gets its phenomenal 21-day-aged steaks, with prime beef provided by farmers across Durham, Cumbria and Northumberland. Where the rest of the inspiration comes from for this amazing menu is a mystery - occasionally it’s from pub tradition, like a slow-braised steak and ale pie; sometimes it’s from international flavours, like Asian-infused tian of quinoa; and often it could be something plucked from the imagination - try the watermelon and chilli iced parfait and you will be thankful for human ingenuity. The Bank gets cosy quickly, so make sure to book a table if you want the full experience!
Had a great night, good food, nice cocktails, overall a lovely place to go. There were 6 of us for tapas and nothing was a bother for the team. Will definitely return!
The best Sunday lunch I've had in a long time! Even my picky Gran almost licked her plate clean! I had the crab cake starter which was simply delicious but not too heavy that I didn't have room for my Sunday roast lamb which came with a selection of veg and potatoes and a huge yorkshire pudding! My Gran had the roast beef which I'm told was amazing and we both cleaned our plates. The vanilla cheesecake for dessert was too good to pass up and we both had this, again this was absolutely divine and if I'd had room I'd have had a second helping! The service was excellent, the wait staff checked on us during every course but not to the point of being annoying. The food came out quickly and was lovely and warm and the staff were friendly and polite. I would absolutely recommend The Bank to anyone and will certainly be returning!
Excellent quality food , the duck meal I had the meat was cooked superb it just fell off the bone. .great service and fairly priced too!
The food and service were terrific, me and my girlfriend got beef dinner served to our liking (well/medium) desserts were lush too. Will defo come back and would strongly recommend. Also the building is very grand and you feel like your in town not the fell.
The food was fantastic, best meal out I have had in a long time. Still fantasising about it! Can't wait to go again. Drinks and service also perfect. Only reason for not rating a 6, is that I was expecting, and would have preferred to be seated upstairs to eat, rather than downstairs in the bar area. Just to experience it, as it was my first time eating there, although I have been in for drinks many times. It was lunch time when I went, maybe they only do that in the evening. However, I had a lovely time, and left there very happy. Would highly recommend to anyone.
Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. Good menu choice but the starters were over priced. 5 small prawns and nothing else for £9 was a rip off. Main course and dessert good. Service was average. Had to ask what the soup was and had to ask to order as no one came to us. Overall enjoyed the experience and would return
Lovely food had a fabulous night with my friends who thoroughly enjoyed there meals too, great staff very attentive catered to all our needs, great value you for money we went on a Thursday night which is 50% off which made this such value for money, will definitely be going again...top notch
Dined here Friday 26th August, bar was busy and good atmosphere, restaurant was quite qiet for 8.30pm on a Friday night, only 2 other tables occupied. But apart from that, the service was excellent, as was the food, couldnt fault it. Will be back!
Have lunched at The Bank before and not been disappointed. I booked on line and table was ready meal was Sunday lunch which was fine. I would prefer to sit upstairs but it seems this rarely happens as often booked for private parties.
Friendly staff, good food. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The only downside was that the menu was quite limited for a Sunday afternoon, but I suppose a Sunday roast is only to be expected! I would recommend it to anyone.
