We arrived early and could be accommodated because it was quite empty. Bought a round of drinkers before dinner one of which was a mocktail, mix berry lemonade, and it wasn’t as described, no berry or mint garnishes. Mint in another drink was limp and old. Sat down for dinner and even though I booked for Father’s Day wanting that menu I was told that it was no longer available as it was after 5pm. This was not on the offer or on any of the online menus, I checked while I was there. Because of this 2 of my teenage children just ordered off the kids menu. Starters were small and unsatisfying with the exception of the croquettes on the ham hock. My wife and oldest daughter ordered a sharing cocktail, gin fling, that came in a teapot with all the promise of dry ice and theatre it had nothing of the sort and the teapot was dirty. 2 of the children ordered what was described as funky fish goujons. When these arrived they were fish fingers straight out of a freezer, nothing funky other than how over cooked they where. Adult main courses didn’t fair any better, duck breast was so charcoaled it was tough to cut, the celeriac again too tough to cut. Lamb shoulder was ok but didn’t have the promised watercress gremolata or pancetta. Deserts were slow to arrive and the cheesecake was not a cheesecake. The children’s brownies were cold. In addition there was dirt from previous diners under the table, a female cleaner walked in while I was in the bathroom, and the service was very slow. All in all not a great experience and I will not be returning

Came here for an 80th party. The venue is lovely and the food great. What made the party for us was the amazing service from James who looked after us the whole afternoon. Nothing was too much trouble for James, he was just fab! Thank you

We had spent our weekend in Liverpool and finished it off with an amazing Sunday roast. Couldn't recommend this restaurant enough, staff were very friendly and the food was amazing. Definitely returning.

We were seated at a table that was right next to the toilets and one of the event rooms. People were walking past us continually. This was despite there being numerous empty tables where we could have been seated. It was very uncomfortable and I was not happy about paying £150 for the experience. Our waiter was excellent but I still cannot understand why we were seated in such a bad place when the restaurant was almost empty!

We went on match day, which was very lively and busy. Pre match entertainment was a talented singer , followed by the match on many screens throughout the bar and restaurant. They do match day offers on meals and drinks. The service was appropriate to the level of customers, always friendly and if a little delayed a quick genuine apology, but we never felt we had to wait too long. A few nice touches from staff (gave our daughter an easter egg, even though extremely busy, staff and management checked on us to see if ok when passing by).

Go here quite regularly and often take different friends. Food is always very good but my friend thought her steak was very overpriced . Another thing was the same dish on two different menus varied in price by over £2:00. Same thing with the drinks. Pink gin from the cocktail menu £6:50 ordered another from seating area £4:75. Bit annoying as I had already had 3 with my meal,

Service at the table was good but the delivery of the food was not all at the same time and one order was overlooked. We actually needed somewhere quieter but, it seems, it is a popular choice for parties, (birthday, hen)

My overall assessment was one of this lunchtime experience not meeting my expectations. Maybe I expected too much but these were based on experience of using good quality and renowned hotels nationwide. This experience fell short and I would rank it alongside a pub lunch and not a hotel restaurant. There were some positives of course but also a number of areas where things could have been so much better. When we arrived it was clear that we hadn’t been expected. Strange as I had booked a table for 5 some time ago and had confirmed the booking (adding an extra seat) the day before. I’m afraid the service was rather amateur and inexperienced - though it did improve. For example the waiter didn’t know what the soup of the day was and had to go away to check when asked as we were ordering We also had to ask for a desert menu when it hadn’t been offered some 10 minutes after main course plates had been cleared. The restaurant chairs were clearly too low for the height of the tables resulting in a very odd seating position for those on a chair rather than a bench seat. A cushion could have been offered but wasn’t I also thought the menu was rather limited On the positive side the food that we had was very good and beautifully presented. I noted above that the service improved and the best example was when the waiter interacted with us and learned that it was my father’s 81st birthday - shortly after a very nice mini desert arrived for him with a personalised happy birthday greeting. A really nice touch - thank you. So all in all an OK lunchtime experience with good quality food but below expectations for the experience.

Our whole experience could be described as ‘hard work!’ Which was a shame. We struggled to order roast dinners as were an odd number and they come in platters for two. We were eventually allowed to order a single one. Then none of the roast came with Yorkshire puddings as advertised. One of the platters didn’t come u TIL twenty minutes after the others. After asking after the Yorkshire puddings about ten minutes later I plate of them piled up where brought out which weren’t home made ones like others we could see people had. There was no horse radish to go with the beef. We had the smallest amount of gravy each although the menu said unlimited gravy available asking for it took so long the food was cold by the time it had all arrived and then we tried to order dessert! This came in two lots again about twenty minutes apart. Admittedly they did acknowledge the delays we had encountered and take some off the bill. It was far from a relaxing enjoyable experience!

Afternoon Tea-rrific! Was looking for an afternoon tea place in Liverpool and it was recommended in an article by the Liverpool Echo. Booked online, it's very conveniently located. Had a delicious variety of cakes and sandwiches. Price was also very good. Thank you Ferenc for the incredible service, attentiveness and friendliness that made our afternoon tea unforgettable!

Arrive for a pre theatre meal , Extremely disappointed, food was cold and lamb was pure gristle , very noisy couldn’t even have a conversation over dinner , infored the waitress we weren’t happy but there was no offer to change things to make our dining experience more pleasant , we have been to the Shankley on many occasions prior to yesterday but free the overall atmosphere was like sitting the middle of a drunken bar people standing around all dining table areas whilst dining , overall quite upset as it was my birthday treat off my two friends and they were extremely disappointed

Visited the Bastion for my boyfriends birthday and from the word go received exceptional service. I rang to inform them that it was a birthday we were celebrating and lovely girl on the phone was very helpful and enthusiastic about our visit. When we arrived we received timely and friendly service and never felt too much trouble or overlooked. Food was great as was atmosphere. Will definitely recommend and be coming back.
