Potatoes were awful, definitely not fresh and probably frozen and reheated

Good atmosphere, excellent service. Beer battered cod was especially good, as were the sharing plates.

Food was delicious and the staff are friendly and efficient. We always love going to the Bedford.

We were seated in the main bar rather than the side room for lunch at 4pm on a Sunday. It was extremely noisy as the bar was packed and football was also on. Huge portions, but my wife said the belly pork was very fatty and my son said that the beef (served medium rather than medium rare as requested) was rather tough and had lots of sinew. To be fair, my beef was very good though the roast potatoes were rather odd - very dark colour and not crisp at all. For 6 adults and two 3 year olds the bill came to £200 which seems rather steep especially as 2 adults didn't have any alcohol (mind you, £4.50 for a smallish glass of Rhubarb lemonade full of ice is more expensive than wine!)

Ear plugs provided and you'll need them. Music played until 2am and it will keep you awake until that time. No phones in the room, you have to use your mobile to call their outside line to contact reception. The safe instructions are difficult to understand. The service and food in the restaurant was very good.

It wasn’t too busy but we were left unattended at the entrance to the restaurant room for 5 minutes. I had to get the attention of someone behind the bar to ready our seats. I noticed two other tables who arrived after us were served before us & although the manager apologised, it was clear the waitress was overwhelmed. The stew my friend ordered was cold, so had to be taken back. I accidentally spilt my drink, smashing a glass. There were tiny bits of glass still on the table as it wasn’t cleaned properly & there was no offer of a complementary drink. We then had to wait a long period for someone to deal with our bill when two staff were chatting behind the bar. The food was fine but I won’t be going back due to poor customer service.

We came for Mother's Day but was disappointed at the food which was not hot when it came out and was bland. Definitely overpriced for what we got. The service however was good. Will be coming back for drinks but not food.

Our Sunday roasts were lovely. Very tasty and the buttered cabbage was a lovely addition. The sticky toffee pudding was also delicious. Will definitely be coming back.

This was my first visit and will definitely be back. Great food, lovely venue and amazing free music to top it off. Thanks for a fantastic night.

Burgers are served rare in the middle and they didn’t tell us that or ask us how we would like it cooked! Other than that the starters and pudding were amazing

Service was super although the cocktails took a long time to arrive. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Great atmosphere and delicious food. The kitchen and staff catered very well for my food allergy. I love this group of pubs and the Bedford is a great new addition.

We arrived and the place wasn’t packed. It was very loud and there was a band playing. Not something you expected on a Thursday evening when you are taking your stepmother out. After waiting for about 10 mins to be seated I went to get someone’s attention. The Young lady who was collecting glasses told me to wait till She found someone. Once seated, the young man who served us was very attentive and looked after us very well, been also very patient with my stepmother who doesn’t really speak English. He made our evening. I wish I had asked his name. However, it was very loud. Food and service was superb but there is no need for that level of noise on a Thursday evening. Definitely go back but I won’t stay next time if too loud again. It’s ok to shout at each other at the bar but not ok when you are having dinner sitting next to each other.

Lovely waitress, though they were short staffed and it was a little chaotic. Food middling to good, not outstanding. Interior is really pleasant, if a little beige after the refit.

Lovely atmosphere - wonderful service - really average roast sadly. Lovely beef - but roast potatoes were not crispy, gravy was a bit bland and the veg generally lacking a bit of wow.

Fantastic service from a gentleman who helped sort out my table. However, table service was very slow, food was cold and why do you have a weird light in front of a tv! Waited a long time for food and for paying the bill. Thought it was cheeky to put on such a high service charge on considering the poor table service. Had to go to the bar to get drinks as no one would serve us. May come again

The Bedford has a huge menu with lots of options to eat. Their 50% off food in January was great and service was very good

Sadly this is the second negative experience we’ve had at the Bedford. Firstly we had to order our food and drinks from the bar after no one came to take our order or give us menus after we had to show ourselves to our table. One staff member told us we could move table because it was really cold near the door, then someone else told us we couldn’t. We ended up being made to move table 4 times despite having booked a table and one of our meals having already arrived. They then brought out the wrong order. Will be going to other pubs in Balham from now on, as last Christmas they “forgot” our Christmas dinner order and apparently the chef wasn’t in (it was a Sunday...). They served us a basic roast (with frozen potatoes and none of the festive additions we had paid for) and then when we chose not to pay service charge, they challenged us and told us we had to pay it because they had “already put it through the till” and apparently you need to expressly tell them you’re not paying it when you’re given the bill....?! It’s a shame because the comedy and live music nights at the Bedford are great.

I had a lovely time at the bedford. We had great yummy foof, good wine and the staff were very attentive! This is my local and I will definitely go again.

Unfortunately this did not live up to expectations ... I thought I had booked for brunch via the website as it only allows bookings from 12 noon, but it was lunch instead (we had all wanted brunch) .. the food was not entirely hot when served and the chips were over salty to the point we all had to leave them. I really want to like it here, but was disappointed on this occassion.

Very nice food and reasonable service. Nice refurbishment and good atmosphere. Presentation of dishes could be slightly more refined (i.e. lemon wedge served in the alioli - not great to squeeze lemon on fish with hands covered in mayo).

Really nice atmosphere and vibe, and the new refurbishment has made a huge different. Used to be a bit grotty, but with character, but now it's clean and fresh but still has character. Food and service was really good and lots of beers to choose from, will be back!

Had Sunday lunch here for the first time since the recent refurbishment. Couldn't fault it, staff were super friendly and helpful, buzzy atmosphere and the food was delicious. My husband and daughter had the roast beef with yorkshire pudding and I had the salmon. They also welcome dogs! Can't wait to go back.

Real buzz in the newly refurbished Bedford. Food very good, although service was slow and long wait for our food, we had a very helpful waitress - it was very busy.

The interiors of the Bedford have been refurbished beautifully. The service is a little haphazard. Some food orders had been forgotten and others given to another table which meant our party couldn’t all eat at once.

The food was good and the new menu is quite varied. However the service was a bit slow. This night be because it's still quite new and will hopefully improve.
