Lovely food - great to try something different Lovely attentive and friendly staff
Overall S African dishes were great, the Bunny Chow is just like having a Durban curry. Haven’t tried the burgers yet, we only go there for the S African food, best I’ve had in UK.
Great local, evening meal options could have a few more healthy options but definitely better than the run of the mill pub grub. Staff really friendly!
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and great food 😊. All good
Some of the best food we've tasted this year - and I like to cook. We'll be back.
So good! Great food and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.
Liz and Rob were amazing hosts and loved the atmosphere. We will definitely go back for more - the food was über delicious.
Great food and service. Reasonable pricing too. Would definitely go back!
Superb Sunday lunch. Lovely food, great service including the atmosphere.
Very friendly and accommodating staff. Delicious food and nice ambience in the pub. Will definitely go again. Thank you
We opted for the chicken curry which unfortunately tasted like the sauce was from a jar and there was barely any chicken. The rice was vegetable rice and not what you'd expect to have with a curry. The 'accompaniments' of mango chutney and onion were miniscule and no poppadoms. Have had some lovely meals here before but this was very disappointing ..... could have made a better curry at home - sorry!
The worst roast dinner I’ve ever eaten. Terrible nut roast & vinegary red cabbage. Didn’t realise it had changed hands. I rarely write a bad review as people are trying to make a livelihood, but very disappointing as this used to be such an amazing pub with brilliant food!
Great South African food and salted caramel cheesecake was amazing
Great service, lovely food, friendly staff and locals. Definitely one to return to
On arrival we were told that our booking for a window seat was "a problem". We said we didn't mind, but an apology would have been nice. We were offered either two seats next to each other facing a table of four at close proximity, or a table for two which we discovered was en route to the toilet. Whilst we both enjoyed our starters (cream of broccoli soup, squid), the main courses were O.K. but nothing remarkable (duo of Chicken and the South African main, Bobatie). The dessert of Strawberry Panacotta was pleasant enough. The service was rather unprofessional and did not show a good knowledge of what was on the menu or which wines were available. Our server was pleasant enough but she needed some lessons in how to word things e.g. not "do you want your change?', but "I'll get your change," giving the customer the opportunity to say, "no, that's fine, keep the change," (or otherwise.) The level of service certainly didn't warrant a generous tip-probably not our server's fault, but more a lack of appropriate training from a landlord trying to make up for lost income due to lockdowns. We have previously had excellent meals at "The Bird in Hand', but sadly won't be returning anytime soon. This was an Anniversary meal (34 years), and to be honest, it was overpriced and not wildly enjoyable.
