The beloved British chophouse is more than just a restaurant or a pub, and The Chophouse Braintree keeps this in mind with every single thing it does. It’s a modern take on British dining that retains all the well-loved traditions whilst embracing certain flavours and cooking techniques from overseas. Tastefully decorated, The Chophouse Braintree occupies a gorgeous cottage-style building on the town centre’s New Street that you simply can’t walk past without being lured in. There’s a variety of menus fit for any time of day with classic, indulgent flavours in each, making this chophouse a definite jewel in Braintree’s crown.
The British chophouse dates right the way back to the 17th century and the birth of modern commercial trading, when they served as gathering spots for businessmen going about their trade. Of course, after all the hard work, gentlemen would enjoy some of the finest food and drink that was available. The chophouse, then, has always been synonymous with quality and The Chophouse Braintree is certainly no different. Find it in the heart of Braintree sitting grandly on New Street, then delight at homely decor, earthy colours, wooden flooring and a general ambience that will make you feel comfortable. The Chophouse is an extremely pleasant place to sit and there are varied seating areas for all sorts of occasions.
The Chophouse Braintree is open for lunch, an evening meal or simply a round of casual cocktails. If you’re passing through the town centre early then you can enjoy a selection of appetisers, perhaps the chophouse sausage rolls, smoked salmon or baked Suffolk chorizo. If you’re a little more peckish, there’s pesto dressed linguini, steak and chips with bone marrow butter or a classic ploughman’s sharer. The main event, however, is the evening menu. Diners from all over Essex flock to Braintree to savour a duo of lamb with aubergine puree and dauphinoise potato, or perhaps pangrattato risotto with butternut squash, caramelised walnuts, sage and amaretti. As it’s clear to see, The Chophouse Braintree serves the best of British with subtle influences from abroad. The menus are simple yet sophisticated and we urge you to give them a try. Excellent service , excellent food , steak just as we like it . More expensive than other local restaurants but worth it . Definitely Recommended .
Booking was really easy, Sunday lunch was the best I had ever had in a restaurant and the staff were warm and friendly. Cannot wait to go again.
We always enjoy our visit to this restaurant, lovely atmosphere for couples and larger groups, the food is great, well cooked and served up in real size portions.
We had been meaning to visit The Chophouse for ages, and after their Sunday roast was recommended to us by a friend, we decided it’s about time we went. We’re so glad we did. The service was exceptional, food delicious and plentiful and the decor very tastefully done. We look forward to returning to sample their weekday/Saturday menu soon, but if their Sunday roast is anything to go by, then we won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended you try The Chophouse.
Such a lovely meal at The Chophouse Braintree!! Speedy service & great food!! Lovely setting!! Would recommend to anyone!! Thank you The Chophouse Braintree! :)
Myself and a few friends recently visited The Chophouse for Sunday lunch. We had the most amazing and scrumptious Sunday lunch we've had in years. All washed down by a fine Malbec - at just the right temperature. The service was fantastic too; not rushed and very well looked after. A lovely afternoon was had by all. Thank you to Rob and his team. We can't wait to go back for more culinary delights.
Lovely little restaurant. I believe we were served by the owner who obviously takes a massive pride in his business. We watched him patiently showing the young waitress how to set tables to an immaculate standard. The Menu was small and each dish executed perfectly. The mash was smoked bone marrow / butter infused, something I have never had before and was gorgeous. All of the courses were good. The drinks menu was right up our street with a large gin selection. We will return.
Attentive, friendly, smart, efficient and professional service by staff who know their product and take pride in their restaurant. Good, fresh, hot, clean tasting food, well presented Generous, flavoursome dishes, interesting choices from a menu that offers a chance to try something new with confidence. Surprisingly diverse, great use of ingredients. Unexpectedly "Vibrant"atmosphere thanks to a hen party in situ but that didn't spoil the eating despite somewhat limiting the opportunity for quiet conversation. Would recommend and revisit.
Overall an enjoyable place to socialise and eat. We went for Sunday lunch and although the choice of starters was limited the food was good although the roast potatoes were slightly dry and firm which we remarked on and our waitress said we weren't the first to mention this fact and the chef himself was unimpressed with the quality of the product he had received, maybe next time we will see a difference as we would go back.
The staff are very friendly and attentive. The food was well prepared with a good selection and the wine list is quite extensive. Everything was reasonably priced for the quality and standard. We were pleased to see that the restaurant was as busy as on our previous visits as there is nothing worse than seeing a good restaurant not being supported. Enjoyable evening.
