This former 17th-Century coaching inn opened in 2009 after being lovingly and painstakingly restored by husband-and-wife team Mark and Sara Colley. Their shared vision was to deliver a restaurant with a countrywide reputation to a community that is passionate and informed about good food. Within six months The Curlew had caught the attention of national reviewers. Within 12 months it was on Michelin’s radar (later to earn a coveted Michelin Star in 2011), and within 16 months had been named ‘Best Eating Experience’ at the Sussex Food & Drink Awards 2010/11 and has since been named as a Grand Finalist in 2015. The Curlew continues to earn national accolades, having made it into the Guardian Travel’s 10 best destination restaurants in Britain, and local adulation by offering some of the most considered and exciting modern British food anywhere in the country.
Celebrated husbands 60th Birthday with family. Warm welcome, great service and food. The restaurant is beautifully presented, decor tasteful and modern. Well thought out for everything. Love the Curlew.
Great food but despite few diners we were all seated adjacent to each other ...... Why do restaurants often do this? If you are first seated you have no say.
Excellent food and service shame it was so quiet as it lacked a little atmosphere. The wine was also good and we were able to buy a carafe which when you are driving is a great idea.
