Service was slow, but that wasn’t too much of an issue as it looked like they were short staffed. The sea bass salad was good, plenty of fish but not enough flavour in the dressing. Burger was great. Not a great deal of atmosphere but pleasant enough. Mediocre overall. But trying hard.

We went to the Fifield last week for Sunday lunch and had a great time, with excellent food. The service took a while, but as we weren't in a hurry that didn't matter. So we decided to go back this week. I booked and when I could only get in at 15:00 I called to make sure we could still get a Sunday roast, I was informed I could and would I mind coming at 15:15 to stagger times from other diners. This was no problem for us. When we arrived we ordered drinks that took about 25 minutes to arrive, and when I asked which roast dinners were available I was informed none were as there had been a problem with equipment. We had specifically come to have Sunday lunch, as I imagine had many others. Why were we not told about the issues and given the opportunity to decide what to do prior to being seated. My personal opinion is that this was a cynical way of hoping that having sat down and ordered drinks, we would not be bothered to move. I'm afraid it did not work. I would have had sympathy had we been informed when we got there of the problems and been able to make up our own minds. However, now I will not be returning, which is a shame as I enjoyed my last meal there. Really poor customer service.

Overall very good; service, food, drinks, atmosphere were all good. Very COVID aware with social distancing, hand sanitizers etc. all in place. Very good value including the discount and we'll be back, with or without the discount!

Lunch at 1pm, 2 options already sold out and one not available due to delivery timings. Not at all impressed with post Covid cleaning, nor social distancing by staff. She walked right up to us, gave us the menus. It states at the bar that you must not stand at the bar but there is a long high table right at the bar that you can stand at, I noted old dust on the furniture and tables weren’t positioned to socially distance if it got busy. I understand a very short menu, but the choices were either fried or salad. Not inspired to return just yet. Also, Cigarette smoke was drifting in through the open doors.

Delicious food and lovely setting though food was rather slow. There was 1 other table of two and it took around 30 mins for our mains to come out. Great for lunch if you are in no rush

Had a lovely meal for 20 people at the Fifield Inn. We had pre ordered our food the day before as we were a large group and every order was correct. The food was lovely and the service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere was fab and had such a nice homely feel to the restaurant. Would definitely recommend!

Lovely food, lovely staff, lovely setting. Only slight niggle was that after taking our main course plates away they didn’t come back to ask if we wanted desserts, coffee or the bill.

It started well: the waitress was prompt and polite. We arrived at 7pm, and we ordered, got our drinks and main courses in good time. We finished our main courses at about 7.45. Then it was at least 20 minutes before our plates were cleared and we were offered the dessert menu. Another 15 minutes elapsed and no one had come to take our order. We found a waitress and placed our order and then it was another 30 minutes before our desserts arrived. So in total it was over an hour from finishing our main courses to receiving our desserts. We would have given up but it was the children who had ordered desserts and they were really looking forward to their doughnuts. However, when they eventually did arrive they were awful. There was no sweetness to them at all and the consistency was more like a suet pudding. How can you make a doughnut that doesn't appeal to children? We were offered the desserts free in compensation but when I heard a waitress on the phone (presumably to the manager/owner) telling him/her how the evening was going, she said that she had given us free desserts as we had to wait for 30 minutes - it was over an hour's wait. We did not leave thinking we had had a good experience.

It was my friends 80th Birthday and there were were 6 of us dining 3 of us wanted Mussels but there was only enough for 1 large serving. so 2 had Salmon one was returned as lady did not like the cold veg. So they replaced it with Broccoli which was hard so she said take it away and she had no dinner as she thought with such a small piece of Salmon she would forgo the meal. The Jersey Potatoes were lovely. 3 of us had the Chicken which was very nice apart from the cold veggies which were cut so thinly there was no taste to them at all. The chips were very nice The Eton mess pudding was a disappointment as there was about 1 one and a half strawberries in it and it was the first time I had ever had it served with ice cream which was very nice so all in all not a good meal was had by all. I have dined with you before and we had a good meal then which was why we returned again. Sorry the review is so negative F Smith

A lovely meal and very helpful with gluten and dairy free. The chef even prepared a fruit platter that wasn’t on the menu. Restaurant decor and ambience is great too. Will definitely return.
