Ever since 1995, The Go Down Restaurant has been serving up the finest quality British food to the people in York. Its location in the historic city centre makes it a popular choice among tourists, as well as being a local favourite and the elegant and refined decor provides the perfect backdrop for a special evening out. Begin your meal with some black pudding served with a rich red wine sauce and crispy bacon, or the lightly-battered cod cheeks with lemon puree. Then, move on to some minted lamb rump with redcurrant & mint reduction served on braised lentils, the pan-fried seabass on a mildly curried broth, or one of the many veggie-friendly options like the somerset brie tart with apple chutney. Located inside York House on Clifford Street, The Go Down Restaurant draws in diners from all over the area – book ahead to avoid disappointment!
Excellent meal and good service. we had 3 courses black pudding starter then steak and sea bass all excellent. creme brullee and sticky toffee pudding which my husband said was best he had ever had
Fabulous meal at the Go Down! Charming staff, excellent service. Food exquisite, my second visit to the Go Down... just as good as my first visit. Excellent, reasonably priced evening out with friends.
No frills restaurant... great food great service. Cost not too bad either. Steak cooked to perfection ....if being picky potatoes slightly over cooked otherwise Highly recommended.
Excellent food and service, great choice of food very well prepared. Staff very efficient and polite. Highly recommended. Good location and convenient opening hours including an early bird menu.
Excellent Do try the Venison pie so tender and tasty as was the duck as was the Pèa risotto. Ours starters were also all very good, my husband raved about the fritto, even the salad - goats cheese beetroot etc was good. The young staff were excellent too, efficient and very pleasant. The restaurant itself is OK, I would perhaps preferred more ambient lighting and perhaps white tablecloths but thats just me! The quality of food offered should fill this restaurant every night.
Fantastic food, best my husband and I have had for a long time. Service attentive and friendly. During the day, a lively café type atmosphere I think, we had an evening meal and the only slightly negative comment is that is still felt like a day time café and needed a little atmosphere, perhaps lights dimming a little. Would certainly go again though.
The quality of the food was excellent and well presented on the plate. The staff were attentive and informative. At no time did we feel under pressure to make choices or restrict the time we spent in the restaurant. A very enjoyable experience. We will go again.
Excellent food, brilliant staff. Wish we could have stayed longer, but the show we were going to see was soon to start. Next time will stay longer . by the way the celery apple and Stilton soup was to die for .
Friendly and personal service, fantastic food and a welcoming atmosphere. We had 8oz fillet steak and lamb and both agreed they were the best meals we'd eaten out! Complimentary bread and dipping oils was also lovely and a nice touch.
Absolutely delicious food - cannot fault any of it - 3 courses Service very friendly and timely Hubby had a very enjoyable birthday meal We gave double tip, as so impressed Thank you - we will be returning
