Lovely food - the set menu offers a great value meal in an independent restaurant where quality and service are so much better than the average York eating place.

We go to the Ebor races every year, and every year we eat here. We’ve been going for four years and each time the food and the service is amazing. The staff are just lovely, especially the owners, and the food is beautiful. It’s real home-cooked food and such value for money. Would recommend this place to anyone wanting a hearty meal visiting York!

Great food and great service , the only downside was the service charge being added automatically as think this should be at the diners discretion, would have given a generous tip anyway

Once again the meal at the Go Down Restaurant was superb the sea food pancake was delicious the service and atmosphere are second to none my favourite restaurant ,We are looking forward to our next visit recommend to our friends when they visited York and agreed it was superb going to visit again

the whole thing was brilliant.The service and food were excellent and we will definitely go again. The one downside is that there is a service charge on the bill. If we want to tip someone, we will. I strongly disagree with it being put on our bill without our knowledge.

That bread!! That warm loaf with balsamic oil and soft butter accompaniments are what draws us back to this amazing hidden gem! Along with the fantastic choice and quality of food, fabulously attentively and sincere service my Mother and I decided to spend some quality 1:1 time at a place which held fantastic memories for us. We last dined in The Go Down over 20 years ago (originally we thought it was only 10 but then worked out it was much much longer!) and because we loved it so much all those years ago we went back and the place continued to exceed our expectations. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.

Great food at here been using the Go Down for years now , Staff are lovely and would recommend this place to anyone visiting York , not over expensive either , must be up there with the best in York

OK, but I’ve had better there. Overall average! They credited bill for over cooked duck, beware of service charge! Restaurant was packed, good for them, not so good for diners.

I've been dining here for many years. Excellent choice of menus, both fixed price and a la carte. Food always good and very enjoyable. Thankyou Penny, Peter and all the staff .

Had a really good meal from the set menu. The standard of food was excellent and service wonderful. It was very quiet but given this was the first Friday in January that was understandable. Would recommend.

The Go Down wasn't having a great night - but even on a less-than-perfect night this is still a great place to eat. Generous portions of well-cooked, interestingly presented English food sit alongside a small but well-chosen wine list. The service is fantastic, and returning visitors are greeted warmly by the family owning the restaurant. There was an issue with the fire alarm during our visit which took a while to resolve, not the restaurant's fault but a little annoying. My wife's steak dish was also overdone but this was swiftly rectified. My own food was fantastic throughout. We're regular visitors when in York and will be back for sure.
