The Italian Retro is about as charming an Italian restaurant as you’ll find anywhere in South Shields. Exposed brick walls and rustic wooden flooring combine with low-lighting to produce a dining space that lends itself perfectly to flavours of the Italian kitchen. Each plate of food at The Italian Retro is nothing short of beautiful to look at and to taste, and the produce used to create them is always fresh and very often locally-sourced. To be found on Stanhope Road, this is a genuine South Shields gem and it’s worth the trip even from Newcastle. Reserve a table now and see what all the fuss is about.
Beautiful food. Exceptional, friendly service and a great homely atmosphere. I would have no trouble in recommending the Italian Retro. Nice to have background music also.
Opted for a teatime sitting, chose from the 3 course menu, food very tasty, staff helpful and attentive. Food served promptly. A most pleasant venue to visit.

Excellent service, excellent food at great value, we had the 3 courses for £12.95 menu. There was a nice atmosphere in resturant and we will definitely be back again.
Nice surroundings. Good atmosphere. Impressed with the waiter who seemed to be coping on his own during a fairly busy saturday lunchtime. Food was good. Value for money. Would go again.
Good food, value for money, service good friendly polite staff. It's my sons birthday soon will definitely be booking a table for a return visit
Starter and mains were good however dessert was disappointing as I had to use a knife to cut into some of the portions. I had the trio of chocolates.
Lovely food and friendly staff at a reasonable price. Kids like maje your own pizza. Only thing was retro calzone a bit doughy this time.
