Some of the food was very good but we thought some was only average and very much over-priced. I had the suet pudding which was ok (although I make better suet pudding) but at £38.00 this was very expensive. & I hat being ripped off for wines. The pique-pull at £44 is more than four times the price at cost and then you charge service when not once…. Did anyone offer to pour the wines. Service was just about ok but nothing extra that would make the visit memorable. The bill at £177 per coupe is at the higher end of what we pay (we meet monthly for lunch) but the experience was definitely at the lower end. A shame, because I thought it was going to be an outstanding occasion.
Great service, really nice staff, good hot food, have been on numerous occasions, will go again.
Wonderful food and service with superb healthy game to choose from.
Not what it was. Cold food, little attention, and haven’t paid yet so a bit soon to ask..
We are regulars and always enjoy our visits. Last night was noisier than usual; we could barely hear each other. The food is excellent and original but not entirely suitable for me. Portions far too large. Eg I love Mallard but this was a huge dish (exorbitantly priced). and when I asked for a smaller choice with fewer ingredients there was no response. Nice staff but three times tried to fill our glasses after we had said we do this ourselves. We come a lot, but would like more choices for those who are not City boys with huge appetites.
A table d'hote menu reasonably priced by today's standards included a perfectly cooked dish of venison with celeriac. In an increasingly veggie world this is the restaurant for meat lovers.
Excellent food choice, well presented & delicious. Superb selection of wines.
Always a treat to dine at the Jugged Hare. Good and service are perfect.
