Took my parents there for a meal as they were visiting me in Lancaster. They absolutely loved it and I did too - great food, great service and lovely atmosphere. They’ve asked for me to take them again the next time they’re in town!

I took two South Africans to the restaurant and they felt the food was of a standard they would receive there. Food was well presented, very tasty and just the right amount. Service was excellent, staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Will eat there again

Originally booked the St Michaels venue table for 4 some weeks ago, a few days before I received a call advising they had double booked and we could go on a reserve list or we could switch to the Lancaster venue! I agreed although this was a train ride away. On arrival the staff were great Emma especially, HOWEVER the limited menu whilst varied and our first experience of South African food were advised 2 of the starters had run out! Our booing was at 7.45pm so early to of ran out of possibly their best sellers “ribs”. That said the food was good, I had Ostrich steak that came with sweet potato wedges and broccoli stems and carrots. £25 I thought was high end and my wife had a tasting platter at £28 that didn’t have much on. To top the evening trains were cancelled on our return journey due to northern rail not able to find a driver and we paid £45 to get home in a taxi.. To summarise, nice venue great staff underwhelmed with the food for the £170 for 4 of us.

Felt rushed through the meal but understand there is a fine line between waiting to long and quick service. Overall nice place with good food.

Couldn't fault if. The food is fabulous. This is now our new favourite place.

We really enjoyed everything we had, beautifully presented and very tasty. We did feel though that the prices are a little steep for the quantity-especially the prawn starter and the belly pork main course.

Lovely restaurant and service just a shame that the shared starter and one of the main courses wasn’t up to their usual standard. This was quickly resolved and knocked off the bill.

Very pleasant front of house staff. Good service, friendly and helpful. A little over-priced. Wouldn't go for kangaroo again - lacking in flavour but good texture.

The atmosphere and interior is lovely but I wouldn’t recommend it for vegetarians as there is only one option which is pretty uninspiring but fine for meat eaters - the clue is in the name!

Absolutely beautiful food. Only one vegetarian choice which was not nearly as filling as my husband's slightly more expensive steak dish. Mine was a near-enough carb-free (but delicious) curry 'soup'....don't forget, vegetarians have good appetites too! By the time I had the gorgeous chocolate dessert I was full enough though. Excellent service and faultless otherwise.

Great service. Went for the vegan main course which was tasty. But it was quite a small portion so not good value for money and it was the only vegan option on the mains menu

Had a great evening here. Very good atmosphere, friendly and efficient staff, and, most importantly an interesting and well cooked menu.. If you like South African flavours you can't go wrong at The Mad Hunter.
