The Malt Shovel lived up to its excellent reputation. The food ( very important) was first class with service (almost as important) to match. Compared to other local establishments a little more expensive, but in my opinion well worth it. We will most definitely visit again.

Great food but service slow. Waitress lovely but had a lot to do. Waited a long time to eat. Table at 7.30 main course not till 9.15 which was a shame as it spoils the fact food was good.

This lunch was a celebratory one for us! It was wonderful. Interesting wine list , delicious starters, queen ie scallops, crayfish with avocado. The main courses were just the thing for a summer lunch, Whitby crab salad. Just to ensure that we would be utterly replete, deserts, rhubarb crumble and a totally Devine lemon posset, double espressos.........and a long, long walk with the dog! Return visit? You bet, on my birthday!

We had excellent food and the staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. Service for the main course was on the slow side, but it was busy whilst we were there.

The food was good but the service slow due to only 2 at the front of house we understood that but we will definitely go again but probably earlier in the week and not on a Friday/weekend

Nice place. Great food, lovely atmosphere but time taken to serve the food was also very relaxed. Perhaps it was a mid-week scenario, but nevertheless worth a visit.

Nice, quiet ambiance, simple food cooked really well and excellent service. Having been weekly regulars perhaps 20 years ago or so, we came full circle and returned, to an upgraded village pub, well cooked food again at a reasonable price and a warm welcome. Managers, please respect and appreciate your staff! They may prove to be invaluable. Many thanks, Bart Blok

Starter of crayfish salad/ cocktail was average but my wife enjoyed the fishcakes. Mains were tasty but for those with a medium sized appetite suggest that additional side orders of vegetables are ordered. Cheapest bottle of wine was more than £19. House wines in other restaurants in the area are circa £16. The service, look and feel of the place and atmosphere were good although I would think that tables near the entrance would be cold from a draft when the door is opened in winter. Overall reasonable value but not the best in the area - we are likely to visit again.

Not been for a few months but still great varied good choice and good service. Friendly and nice atmosphere as always. Food was excellent super steak and my wife was lucky enough to get the lobster Thermidor which she'd highly recommend. Prices reasonable given quality and choice highly recommended.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere with unobtrusive but friendly smiling staff. Excellent Sunday Roast Beef but too much on the plate- would have preferred vegetables served separately!! Would definitely come here again as we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you.

The Malt Shovel, tucked away in a small hamlet, is a characterful place worthy of any magazine shoot. The menu and specials board are always interesting and well thought out. The staff are friendly and efficient attentive too. We have been previously but have not visited for a while and it was a welcome return. We will not be leaving it so long again! We both had a starter from the Specials Board - lemon smoked salmon - superb Both of us had steaks which were tasty and plentiful - I cannot highly recommend The Malt Shovel enough - give it a try

One of my fav local spots and food was amazing as usual. Staff were friendly and nice although not the usual team. Only complaint was that the service was extremely slow, slowest I've ever had and it wasn't as good as my previous experiences which have always been 6/6 so just a watch out that your exceptional standards don't slip! Thanks again for a great evening though. K

The food was superb unfortunately our main courses were delayed by the arrival of a large celebration party whose food [obviously already booked] took precedence. The only other disappointment was the position of our table which was close to the bar and near the constant stream of the waitresses and the party goers replenishing their drinks. Not the best position to celebrate my sister's 90th birthday. Having said that, we enjoyed the meal and the staff were very pleasant.
