About The Moorings

As a warm family home since 1841, The Moorings is a true institution of central Chester and certainly where you need to be heading for true British cooking served in a true British way. Much like the history of the building itself, The Moorings menu is proud, no-nonsense and packed with honesty on every page. Breakfast is served until midday, afterwhich the main menu consists of classics like homemade cottage pie and freshly battered haddock fillet. Produce at The Moorings is sourced from a master Chester butcher, a Cheshire dairy farm, a bakery on the Wirral and a family-run green grocers. You’ll find this absolute British gem on The Groves – reserve a table now.

Cons The Shmoo was bland and powdery. It was quite cool in there. If there was heating on, it was hard to tell. Pros Reserved a table, so had the best seat in the house (the window seat). The porridge was delicious, and so was the English breakfast. The staff were very good.

We arrived early however we were attended to straight away and directed to our reserved table, which I thought was good organisation. We had lovely food and really enjoyed the view of the River Dee from where we were seated, many thanks!

Beautiful location on the river with mouth watering menu with a large selection of sandwiches - highly recommend the chicken BLT. Friendly staff who are attentive. Every time we visit chester we always pop in here.
