Bringing a taste of the Mediterranean to the people of Walsall, The Olive Tree on St Pauls street is the place to go for authentic Greek and Cypriot cuisine in the town centre. Situated inside of St Paul's Building, The Olive Tree is a popular choice for both lunch and dinner, so to be sure of snagging a seat at this local hotspot, making a reservation in advance is recommended.
Stunning food, big portions and the owner is one of the friendliest people you could meet!! True Greek! I will visit again and take lots of friends. Well worth it in such a quaint restaurant!! Can't fault it at all!
Great food; intimate, friendly atmosphere; excellent value. Best place to eat in Walsall. Don't be fooled by the setting (next to bus station), it's a piece of the Mediterranean in the Black Country.
We had to re-book a week later than planned because of a flash flood. It was well worth the wait. The food was excellent and Mario and his family could not have been more friendly. The whole atmosphere reminded us of an intimate French bistro - save for the authentic Cypriot food, of course - rather than cafe-restaurant adjacent to Walsall bus station. We certainly will be returning. Tip - save room for the cheesecake!
During the day at The Olive Tree inside St Paul’s Building in Walsall’s town centre, you’ll find a range of cafe favourites like paninis and sandwiches alongside Greek kebabs on the lengthy menu, and come evening time you can tuck into a range of hearty Greek and Cypriot dishes. Appease your appetite by going for some grilled halloumi or the psarosoupa (a traditional fish soup) before moving on to your main course.
From tavas arni (slow-cooked lamb pieces with potato, tomato and various herbs and spices with pilaf rice and mushrooms cooked in butter) to the louvia me-lahana (black-eyed beans with spinach cooked in olive oil and lemon juice and topped with tuna), there is something to suit all tastes. Vegetarians should try the stuffed vine leaves, while meat lovers will be delighted with the ultimate kebab (chargrilled chicken, pork, lamb and sheftalia with salad inside a pitta bread).
