Service as usual very slow at the Riser ! However , lovely staff and good quality food, almost but not quite made up for it.

We always enjoy our meals at the Rising Sun. I just have to remember not to ask for a large portion, small is plenty particularly when I ask for addons like squid rings (always superbly tender) and sweet potato chips.

Lovely sitting in the garden on such a beautiful day. All the food was delicious. And good value with the lunch two course special. Would highly recommended recommend.

Great welcome and service initially, the menu easy to read and varied. The food was very good but experience let down by service ie no fish knife & a spoon had to be requested.

Lovely lunch and thanks for getting the 'cremated' burger order right. It would have been a 6 but the salted caramel dessert had sold out! I would definitely come back.

Lovely food, llovely staff, busy inside but not outside in the beer garden. It was a shame about the rather long wait for food to arrive. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

We waited 1.5 hours for our starter! The staff did not appear to know what they were doing. The risotto was excellent and the steak reasonable for the price.

Staff friendly and helpful. Food very good and sensibly priced. We all had fish and chips and was well presented, fish and batter got full marks from all four of us.

Happy to get a booking at very short notice on a busy Sunday. Lovely evening, friendly and really cheerful staff...even after what was probably a long Fathers Day lunch session! Food was great especially the Sunday roast. Very dog friendly, nice amount of bar, drinking and casual dining space with separate dining room for bigger groups and families. We’ve been here on several occasions at different times of day and are always have a good time.

Excellent lunch because of good service and atmosphere. We will definitely make another date at The Rising Sun As our large party all enjoyed the experience.

Very good food, from a traditional pub service could have been a bit quicker and could do with a few more vegetarian options reasonably priced too

Really friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food - fish cakes and steak burger both very tasty and the chocolate brownie was huge! (Glad we shared!). Quiet, village setting.

Love it here, our favourite local pub. Perfect Sunday, nice family walk then a Sunday roast. The lamb was lovely and tender served with tasty veg, huge Yorkshire pudding and delicious gravy.

A rather stark dining room with scrubbed tables and plain decor. The food was reasonable although my starter of mackerel pate was rather meager and the main of pork sausage was unspectacular. Very pleasant staff and good service.

Went for a family birthday dinner after having visited once before and enjoyed the experience but this time we were all very disappointed - the service was appalling and the food average.....definitely won’t be returning again.

Food and service good. However we were freezing in the restaurant as sat next to a drafty window with no radiator on. We complained about this 3 times but we were ignored. Ruined my sister’s birthday lunch.

Delicious food and smiley staff. Lunch on a Sunday takes a while to come but that’s because they are busy as the food is great!

Nice setting. Friendly staff. Food very average at best. There are so many other better places around that I’m surprised that they have such good reviews. What a shame as it was a birthday treat.

Lovely country pub with friendly punters and welcoming staff. Highly recommend the roast beef on Sunday if any tables available. Very popular place. We will return for sure!

Have been many times but on this occasion I was really disappointed. The foccicia was really stake and they had just swamped it in oil to compensate. Not a good start sorry. I'm sure it was a one off and we will return at some point.

Lovely lunch and great service. Really lovely staff. Rib of beef had been rested too long so wasn't quite hot or juicy enough. The spinach served under the fishcakes was too salty but overall the ambience and service more than made up for it. Would recommend.

Love this pub for its vibe, friendly staff & open fire but whilst our meal was tasty enough it felt as though my husbands £28 sirloin steak meal was just plonked on plate with no thought for presentation & they even forgot to add the vine tomatoes advertised which we had to ask for ...I think it is important to remember that £28 is a lot for a plate of food and the value needs to be reflected in the meal you receive...i.e. When it arrives you want to think 'wow..looks fab..can't wait to get stuck into that!'. When food is presented with no pizazz it makes us feel like we should buy the same sirloin from our local butchers at a quarter of the price and stay in....which we don't want to do but this is what a lot of people do do hence the closure of loads of pubs. Our message is don't get lazy ...make us feel like it was worth the money and that it is was a proper treat....

The lunch menu is good and the prices very reasonable. Staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient (tap water was offered and promptly delivered - something I watch out for as many restaurants fail on this point). The rump steak was particularly good a great piece of meat expertly cooked. I also really liked the Choc and Caramel tart. My wife liked the fish cake starter and the (very large) chicken and ham pie. Also one of my favourite wines (Cloudy Bay Sauvignon) was available at a price I could afford! Meal finished off with a well made Latte, altogether a very pleasant lunch.

Service was a little slow to begin with and we had to chase them up to take us to our pre-booked table and then to take our order. We had asked for a quiet table, but I suppose in a pub that;s a difficult thing to find!, Our table location was a little lacking in atmosphere. The starters were excellent- really fresh tasting and the main was tasty but I would have liked more jus to moisten the partridge. A good range of imaginative dishes on the menu. Friendly host- Ben.

We really enjoyed our meal - huge portions which we couldn't finish. A few of us had the wild boar scotch eggs which we all agreed were delicious and cooked to perfection. My son had the ham, eggs and chips as part of the Early Bird meal and he devoured it quickly saying it was the best ham he had tasted. The waiting staff were really friendly and helpful which is always a plus. Only downside was the open fire was creating a lot of smoke which made our eyes water a little and our clothes smell (we were sat in the bar area) so to avoid this in the winter months I recommend you book to go in the restaurant.

One of my fave local pubs, excellent food if a little over priced, friendly service and warm atmosphere. However on this occasion completely ruined eating experience by the live band, which had it been made clear when I booked that there was a band on I would have chosen to go elsewhere. I was meeting old friends for some food and a catch up and basically we couldn't talk to each other throughout the meal due to the noise. Now I love to go to gigs, recently seen Future Islands at Brixton and shortly Arcade Fire at Wembley but I make a conscious decision to go to see live music and when I book a meal in a pub I expect to be able to make conversation. We had no choice but to settle the bill and move on to continue our evening. Very disappointing.

I made the arrangements for a group of 13 then 11, then 10 elderly people for a Christmas lunch, the changes being due to ill health. There were also changes to our choices of food. Ben at the pub dealt with all of these alterations extremely patiently and courteously. Then the food on the day was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented so I cannot praise both the service and the food enough. HIGHLY recommended!!

The most delicious pub Sunday lunch ever - the pub was packed, every table full with huge groups of people, so I thought we'd be in for quite a wait service-wise, but they did a brilliant job The roast beef was incredible, the sides were delicious (best roast potatoes ever), and there is a very tempting note on the menu saying that if you want seconds of any of the veg etc., to ask - which we did! To start with, we had a sharing plate which was beautifully presented; the beers were good, as was the wine list with a very good choice including some really decent wines by the carafe Really pleased to have found this

Excellent evaining BUT the owner would not accept our vouchers/loyalty points. So, this begs the question. What's the point of collecting the points if they are not acknowledged or have I missed something?

Great menu, varied with some old favourites and more fancy options. I had a goats cheese, walnut and fig salad which was beautiful and my dad had ‘the best ham, egg & chips’ in years’

The Sunday menu was excellent. Service was good even though the place was full. We live in the neighbourhood and have not been there for at least 3 years as previously the service was simply awful (although the food is consistanly good ) Our faith has been restored so we will definitely go back.
