There is a huge menu with a whole section for vegetarians. Good food, friendly staff. And warm open fires on a v cold day! Lovely.
Great food, and lots of it too. We went for a Sunday lunch-carvery. The plate was loaded high. Delicious ! Very friendly, chatty staff. A grrchoice.
The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious - and there was lots of it! Good choice of vegetables and sauces on the carvery. Well kept beer.
Absolutely gorgeous carvery very tasty meat good choices of veg with friendly staff eggar to please. Easy to book a table as setting out on a lovely local dog walk, dog are allowed in the pub and will enjoy the log fire. My only issue was a very wobbly table but will definitely be returning.
Fabulous food at the Royal Oak and really friendly helpful team. Couldn't be happier! Great variety on the menu, beautifully cooked lunch and the owner couldn't have done more to make sure we had a great time.
Excellent beer. Excellent food. We come to Wilshire for the solstice at Stonehenge every winter it's a ritual for us. Another part if the ritual is visiting this excellent little pub they know us by name and expect us each year. Would not miss visiting this pub for the world if we are in the area. Welcoming and really, really excellent
Lovely warm welcome from staff and log fire . Delicious Sunday roast for meat eaters and vegetarians. Lots of beautifully roasted vegetables, and cauliflower cheese!
Huge generous lovely helpings. Staff so kind and friendly. Some tables a little small for more than 2 people when having a roast dinner, but staff obliging and willing to please .
Wonderful landlord very good food with large portions reasonably priced; very good friendly service. Excellent. Plenty of car parking in a lovely location, Thank you.
Delightful time. Delicious food and charming service. Be sure to visit the church while in the village and look especially for the carvings in the retaining wall around the church yard that lists the prices of bread since the 1800's.
Was really looking forward to this pub after all of the good reviews but our visit was not great. Service was slow and the food was nothing to write home about. Do not like my burger served 'pink'. My friend asked for her burger to be cooked further but I could not face looking at mine again so skipped my lunch. Apple pie was expensive and had very little apple. Had run out of two puddings but had to wait 20 mins before being told of a problem. On the plus side they did remove one burger from our bill. Now know why all of the good pubs were fully booked days ago.
We had the chef, Jonjon's special curry, was hot but very very tasty! Lovely! We were havibg a meal for my partners birthday and were warned the curry was hot so knew what to expect, had a free pint too ☺ lovely night
Typical country pub. Staff very attentive and friendly. Food, we had the 4 meat Carvery and what a surprise..?? the Pork, Turkey, Lamb and Beef was done to absolute perfection and tasty. Roast spuds and parsnips could have been done a bit longer, sprouts past the best, carrots nice and sweet, gravy tasty. One criticism would be that you can only purchase either one meat or four no option to buy two in saying that Would we return..?? YES..!!!
Lovely food, very friendly staff, and in a super spot. Couldn't fault it! It was a very good choice for an extra special Easter Day treat. Also very dog friendly
Fantastic service as soon as we walked through the door. Real local feeling pub and an incredible Sunday carvery. Plenty of local ales on tap will be returning soon
Top notch food & drink (real ale and cider) and very warm welcome - really looking forward to going for another Sunday lunch visit soon!
Excellent friendly service in a lovely pub, sitting next to a log fire. Had a tasty carvery and delicious pud. A bit more expensive than some carveries but lots of meat and good choice of vegetables etc. Will certainly go back again.
Very friendly staff and excellent food! They could not have been more helpful and the menu was varied as was the selection of beers! Will return.
We were very disappointed with pub it had very dingy decor, cold and ininviting. Sad looking fire, adding to cold feeling. Food however was good.
Lovely welcome. Great selection of drinks! Delicious Sunday Roast in a comfortable, cosy, pub. Perfect way to spend a Sunday Afternoon. We'll definitely be back soon!
What a lovely place. Staff are very friendly and the food is really good! We had the Sunday Carvery and the lamb was outstanding, great selection of vegetables and real gravy! Beautiful village too and obviously a lot going on with charity events, music events and much more. Wishing this was local to us! With so many pubs closing or becoming gastro pubs that are all the same this is a real treat. Keep it going!
We booked for a sunday carvery. We were impressed with the quality of the food and appreciated the work that has gone to the appearance of the dining room. Will be eating there again.
Excellent Sunday carvery in both quality, quantity and price - friendly place to go, altough staff seemed slightly disorganised, and not all beer pumps were working, but would definitely go again!
We reserved a table and dined at The Royal Oak on Easter Sunday which has a lovely welcoming ambiance. Friendly, attentive hosts who provided an excellent service along with an extensive, tasty menu. The landlady talked through the menu and offered a range of vegetarian options. Our hosts provided a high chair for our toddler and she thoroughly enjoyed the Easter egg hunt afterwards. A worthwhile journey from Swindon and we will definately return.
We booked for 12.30 and arrived early at 12.10. Unfortunately a funeral party was due to arrive at 12.30 and no-one took our order until 12.50, we then waited at least 15 mins for our food. We were very close to leaving to find another pub in the area.
Booked table for 6 which would have been a very tight fit, but only 5 of us turned up so it was ok. The owner and staff were all very helpful and friendly ( even though the pub was very busy) and we had a very nice carvery lunch. One fault, easily remedied, would be to have HOT plates - although the food was hot, it doesn't stay that way on cold plates! Would go back again.
Having booked and driven 40 minutes in for lunch for 2 at 1300 hrs, 50 minutes later there was no sign or likely to be, for our ordered lunch. The excuse was there was a table for 13 being served!!!!!! The Patron certainly did his best to try and keep us happy but in the end the experience was too disorganised and we left unfed. The Patron insisted the wine/coke which we had consumed whilst waiting was 'on the house'; an appreciated gesture. Very sad especially as I had been so looking forward to the whitebait.
had a great Sunday lunch with a group of friends, having completed a good walk around the woods nearby. Lunch was excellent value and very tasty, with great choice of meat and veg including veggy options. Made very welcome also, with an impressive range of ales, beers and ciders. Will be going again soon!.
Lovely setting, staff most welcoming , have already told friends and family who will be coming your way. The food was very good even though Ken couldn't get a medium home made cooked burger because of EU regs. The little touches because Ken was 86 that day was a lovely surprise. Nice day out altogether.

The restaurant is bright and clean, The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the food very good. My family and I will certainly be revisiting the Royal Oak
Sunday lunch which was very good, the carvery siutiation was bad. Table planning bad around that area. Staff were pleasant, but lacked experience, country pub , but dress code was lacking. Give it one more try
We went for a meal on Friday early evening, with son , his wife and the three grandchildren. The table was well arranged before we arrived, the food was of excellent quality, with the portions, especially the children's being very generous. The staff could not have been more helpful. We shall certainly return next time we are passing along the A36.
