Dear diners, please be aware that reservations must be made least one day in advance.
Housed within a building dating back to 1654, The Ship Inn in Southampton has been restored to show off its original features, such as the beautiful Inglenook fireplaces and oak beaming. The perfect place for a cosy pub lunch, a special evening meal or a few pints with friends in Redbridge, The Ship Inn has become a fixture in the area and you’ll find it located on Old Redbridge Road. From traditional British classics like the homemade steak and ale pie, to juicy steaks and burgers and other favourites like hunter’s chicken (chicken breast wrapped in bacon topped with bbq sauce and mozzarella cheese served with fresh vegetables and chips) and plenty of veggie-friendly options like spinach and mushroom lasagne, there’s something to suit all tastes and occasions on the menu.
I eat here regularly and always have good freshly cooked food. Also friendly and helpful staff. Last visit I had the lamb chops which were delicious and always they serve a large plate of food. Love it here.
Food was really tasty, portion are massive and the service was friendly and fast. We went for a birthday meal and everyone enjoyed themselves. Will be back.
Great family run pub, amazing food and even better service :-) great venue for big functions or small gatherings. I’ve been to the Ship plenty of times and it’s always consistent. Thanks Alison and Zoe
Really nice food and staff very homely and welcoming and the fire was lovely after our cold walk couldn't ask for anything better lovely pub
We Visited The Ship Inn for a birthday celebration. It was a lovely atmosphere and the staff were all very hospitable. We all really enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend to our friends and family. A great evening had by one and all. Well done to the staff of The Ship Inn
We ordered 8 meals. we had 4 meals with errors. 1 Scampi and chips had no tartar sauce . 1 scampi and chips had chicken balls mixed in!!! no explanation when pointed out. 1 child chicken nuggets chips and peas came with beans so had to be replaced. And the worst one was 1 childs roast request for just roast potatoes, chicken Yorkshire pudding and peas WITH NO GRAVY came smothered in gravy. My grandson then had to wait 15 mins for his new meal and everyone else had their dinner. hard for a hungry 8 year old to wait whilst everyone else is eating, Shame because we go to Ship at least once a month and no-one really apologized.
We had booked a table for 4 people and were given a table tucked away in a corner which was nice because it gave us a chance to have a chat! The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was lovely, spoilt for choice. One suggestion - the meals are all very large and I am not a very big eater, it would be nice to have the choice of smaller portions on the menu. Overall, a lovely evening.
The food is amazing and the service is great. Real home cooking which is delicious and large portion sizes. We went on a Tuesday night and would advise booking a table as there is a pub quiz and every table was taken. The pub quiz is great too and fun to do with an entertaining quiz master! Well worth a visit this is a little hidden gem.
The staff are always very friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. The meals are very large, I wish they could serve smaller portions on request, there must be a terrible amount of wastage by the end of each evening. What happens to it all? We have been to the Ship many times for a lovely meal, unfortunately the chips were almost cold this time. Having said all this, we will definitely keep going back!
fantastic meal .great survice. only down side was not seated in a area that was in the section off for the restaurant..was a lots of pub drinkers enjoying there eveing drink with language which was not good to hear as I had my seven yr old son with me ... be better if one side was for drinking and the other side for the family restaurant. apart from that very good meal and friendly staff .
