Situated in the picturesque village of Duston, The Squirrels Inn is a charming gastropub serving up British cuisine and real ales in a stylish setting with a Victorian-style dining room through the back. From staples like gourmet burgers, sandwiches, all-day breakfasts, jacket potatoes and grills, to British classics like the beer-battered cod and chips, the trio of sausages served with creamy mash, the pan-fried lambs liver and the pie of the week, The Squirrels Inn has a dish to suit all tastes and occasions, with plenty of choice for veggies too. We recommend heading over on a sunday and tucking into a traditional roast! Located on Duston’s Main Road, The Squirrels Inn attracts diners from all over Northampton. Be sure of snagging a table by booking one in advance!
We were very disappointed when we saw the menu. It was not what we expected of the squirrels. The last time we went for a meal there, it was quite an extensive choice. Now it was just plain "pub grub". A T-bone steak had to be pre-ordered. They were not sure if they had enough prawns for a prawn cocktail. The staff didn't seem to be experienced in the restaurant side of the pub. Would we go again. NO.
Fairly average, on booking they called to say they were extremely busy and probably wouldn't have any Sunday roast dinners left. We agreed if there wasn't we would choose off the main menu. Bar maid was ore than useless with zero people skills. Once sat to eat we noticed 3 members of staff come out with plates mounted up with food, compared to our 3 potatoes and one Yorkshire pudding. Small portions, bit of a kick in the teeth to see staff coming out with serving platters of food.
Cancelled our booking as they shut the kitchen early. Tried to get takeaway pizza too. They initially said kitchen was closed then served food to others. We had a word with the chef, who then made 2 of the loveliest pizzas, bit overpriced though.
