Slightly overshadowed by the cuisine of its bigger neighbours India and China, Nepalese cuisine is hard to come by in the North of England, but down on Goodramgate in York City Centre it has its time to shine. The Yak and Yeti Gurkha Restaurant is decorated in a traditional Nepalese style, and it has close links to the Gurkha Signal Squadron based at York’s Imphal Barracks. We recommend trying some momo (spiced steamed dumplings originating from the Himalayas filled with your choice of vegetable, pork or beef and served with a tomato chutney), before moving on to the Everest lamb (slow-cooked lamb with onions, ginger, garlic, fresh Nepali masala, chilli and coriander). To guarantee a table at The Yak and Yeti Gurkha Restaurant, make a reservation in advance!
We literally drive from the other side of Yorkshire to eat at this place. Our favourite restaurant in York. The food/service is always awesome! 10/10
1st time here and what a fantastic experience, the staff were very helpful and talked us through the menu. We had battered King prawns & chilli chips for starters, the chips were really good. Main meals of Annapurna Chicken & Everest Lamb with rice & papadum & chutney. All absolutely delicious.
Great food, attentive service and lovely people. It was our first visit and we felt right at home. Will be encouraging all our friends to visit. We went mid week and it was busy, might be a good ideas to make a reservation.
