Dosa, kebab, biryani, bahji and much more adorn the menu at Urban Choola, a popular street food-style Indian restaurant in the Highfield enclave of Sheffield. With a range of small and large plates, appetites of any size can be satisfied. For a really good value kick, go for one of the meal deals, with the most involved being the family meal deal of two kathi rolls or sizzlers, two dishes from the ‘all-time favourites’ selection, two naan breads and a serve of pulao rice, plus salad and a big bottle of fizz. Another way to get stuck into Urban Choola is to go for the traditional thali, complete with naan, dal makhani and an assortment of the chef’s choicest dishes. Find Urban Choola along London Road, close to the corner with Sharrow Lane, but be sure to book ahead to beat the rush.
Really delicious food and very friendly staff. Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxed evening with their partners or in a group of friends.
My partner and I chose a visit to Urban Choola to celebrate New Year's Eve and really enjoyed our meal. It was our first visit and we were both impressed with the service and the quality of the food. Although the restaurant is fairly basic in its decor, it is very welcoming and friendly. Highlights of our meal included onion and potato bhajis, really excellent, lamb and spinach Palak and the vegetable Kahari. We will certainly return soon and would highly recommend this venue for anyone wanting quality Indian food at very reasonable prices.
Great restaurant and food. The platters are excellent if you like a bit of everything with your curry. Nice beers on offer (jaipur and Pink IPA). Only gripe is the pickle trays could be bigger!
Excellent as per usual. Love having Urban Choola on the doorstep, warms me up on a winter night!
If you're tired of the same old predicable curry and want to explore then be prepared for something different. Urban Choola is a bold definition a new fusion street food category where all the theater, spontaneity and authenticity combine to create a totally new taste sensation...and satisfying too!
I had a Thali platter and The Lamb Karahi was delicious! Perfectly cooked, high quality lamb in a rich sauce which was packed full of flavour! It was nice to try a few different sides (came with the platter) that I wouldn't normally order but next time I would probably just order a starter & main course. Although it was also nice to have a dessert to tuck straight into soon as I'd polished off my the rest. Service was great.
First visit to their new premises. Loved the service, and the food was really beautiful. They have expanded the menu, which worried me a bit. No need to have worried. We chose widely and all dishes were really well executed. Unlike most Sheffield curry restaurants, the lamb had been properly slow cooked. And cooked in the flavourings.
Fantastic food, and terrific staff! First time visit so inevitably a little trepidation. No need - friendly and welcoming staff, and one of the finest vindaloos I have eaten over the past thirty-something years. Truly excellent! Great birthday celebration and each of us enjoyed our chosen thali. Looking forward to the next visit
Ate quite often at Choola but in previous location. This experience didn't measure up to the high standard already set. Due to new location, increase in prices and no more BYO (drinks were pricey and the wine I ordered not really worth it) I probably won't return. The food was fine, I tried something new so couldn't make a direct comparison with any of meals I had already had but previously i would have rated my food as excellent.
Took my parents for a Friday night curry and they loved it! As curry fans they're hard to please and we all really enjoyed our meal. I was pretty particular about several things whilst there (pregnant and fussy) and they couldn't have done more to make me comfortable. Definetly would reccommend it!
