West Yorkshire is a hotbed of superb Indian dining, and Westbourne Spice in Otley, on the outskirts of Leeds, is up there with the best. From their location on Bradford Road they offer a menu that will delight both novices and connoisseurs, featuring all of the Indian favourites that one would expect to see, as well as a huge list of chef’s specials that require repeat visits to truly appreciate.
Sandwiched between the major two cities of West Yorkshire – Leeds and Bradford – is the town of Otley. Usually a quiet and uneventful residential community, there is a corner of exotic eating on Bradford Road in the village, in the form of Westbourne Spice. Open from 5pm every day, they provide the Indian food experts of Yorkshire with a culinary experience that goes beyond the curry house classics, with a menu stacked with specials and authentic subcontinental dishes.
The specials at Westbourne Spice are, well, a little bit special. Their starters include boti dishes, lamb and chicken marinated and chargrilled, and variations on chicken tikka, in this case using chicken livers. Mains at this Bradford Road Indian restaurant are equally as unique: chicken or lamb can be cooked Parsi-style (with chana daal and lemon juice) or murgh Malay-style (with pineapple and poppy seeds). There are other specialities, such as makaika sewata, lamb and chicken with coriander, and tavwa tarka, with beans and cherry tomatoes. If you take a trip out of Leeds to this part of Otley for a curry, you will be sure of finding something you haven’t had before: so book a table now and head on over.
Absolutely fantastic food, and wonderful service. We didn’t realise that there was a special deal on a Wednesday, so that was a lovely surprise - 3 courses for £9.95! Huge portions, and the food was very fresh. We’ll definitely be going back soon!
The food and service were as good as ever. Our niece and her husband always look forward to their visit whenever they visit us from Winchester.
Great food served by friendly helpful staff. Made welcome at the door and made to feel as though our visit was important to them. Excellent evening!
What an amazing place the food the staff and the restaurant can’t highly recommend it from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave you get looked after
On entering the Westbourne Spice, we were greeted by smart friendly staff, our booking was confirmed. We had the choice of either having a drink in the bar area and perusing the menu, or going straight into the immaculate restaurant. We chose to go into the restaurant, and were given a choice of several tables, Once seated drinks & poppadoms were ordered & quickly arrived, while we choose starter & main. All courses arrived freshly cooked without having a long wait. The attentive waiters seamed to have a good balance, between leaving you alone to enjoy the food and replenish the glass when required. A slight downside in the restaurant can be large noisy parties, so choosing the table worked well. Best of all the food was superb...
Very long queues on arrival even though we had booked we still waited 35 mins to get our table. Starters nice good portion size well presented, we asked for breathing space in between meals but second course arrived within 5 mins, we was too full to eat it so took the majority of it Home. Quite pricey and far too busy to few comfortable an not rushed. A little overpriced for what you get and what you can get in other restaurants. Decor and furnishings lovely very modern. They just need to prioritise booked customers and getting them in on the booked time not 35 mins later. We took most of main course Home as we were too full to eat it as it came straight after starter even though we requested breathing space. Drinks pricy, soft drinks same price as beer. I don’t think we will rush back in a hurry but I won’t wrote the place off as the food was ok the whole experience was rushed and not the best I’ve been before and the food has been better. A lot of nice curry houses around on par with this place and for cheaper I don’t think we will rush back but I probably would return sometime again in the future but not on a busy day like tonight. £50 for A couple to eat is not the best but ok for a special occasion
Have yet to find a friendlier or more salubrious place for an evening out. The welcome was amazing, not just from one staff but every one of them and there were plenty of them. The whole atmosphere was one of happiness. The decor was really classy and hit the right notes for a calm and pleasant environment. We only had one course and poppadoms to start with. the pickle tray had seven different dips to try, never seen that before. The main course was delicious and, again, unusual choices on the menu which was very varied and would suit all tastes. The service was second to none, every little thing was catered for, I dropped my napkin on the floor and no sooner had I picked it up than it was taken away and a new one put in place for me. That is exceptional service indeed. Through conversation with the staff, they discovered that it was our first visit and after the meal, we were treated to complimentary coffee, because it was our first visit. It definitely will not be our last, we will be back.
This is a fantastic restaurant. You're always guaranteed of a friendly welcome from the moment you set for through the front door to the moment you leave. The food is amazing and there is no chance of leaving feeling hungry. There is a pleasant buzz to the atmosphere but it still feels like you have privacy. Highly recommended that you visit this restaurant even if you're not in the area. We live 20 miles away but it's always a pleasure to make the journey for this level of quality.
great meal last Friday. we had booked our table and the restaurant was very busy. we were in quite a rush as my friend had a train to catch ,and when we explained everyone was so helpful and pulled out all the stops to get our meal served quickly, despite there being so many customers. as usual the food was delicious, the portions generous and the bill very modest. many thanks-we'll be back , and look forward to a more leisurely visit next time
Always great at Westbourne Spice. Just had a face lift and looks great. We have been going as a family for years (now with 16 and 12 yr olds). Always a buzzing atmosphere with helpful and friendly staff. Strongly recommend.
