Gourmet British cuisine is what you’ll enjoy at 1964, a fine dining establishment in Gateshead. This family-run restaurant is well known for their fresh, delicious offerings which include updated British classics like pan-fried pigeon breast with pearl barley risotto and wild mushrooms, slow cooked pork belly with black pudding and cauliflower or 28 day dry aged British steaks. On Sunday, stop in for lunch from between 12pm and 4pm for a traditional roast – go for the roast pork with homemade stuffing and cracklings for a feast you won’t soon forget. Superb Mothers Day lunch taste with a difference!! One of the best!! Good portion size for style of cuisine!! We will return to sample more delights!! A hidden gem!!
A new menu, the usual high standard. They now do a set 2 or 3 course menu,£20.95 for the 3 courses . Well recommended for any occassion.
Fabulous food, beautifully presented, excellent serve, friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for an enjoyable fine dining experience. The belly pork dish was very tasty and the chocolate fondant dessert stunning.
My husband and I went to 1964 for Sunday lunch recently. The meal and attention to detail were superb. A very different dining experience and well worth the visit. Great choice of starters and the mouth watering meat was accompanied with slightly out if ordinary veg. I would recommend this to anyone who likes something different.
This was my second visit to 1964- this time with friends visiting the north For Easter. We were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming . The menu provided choice and variety. The food was very well presented and completely delicious. An altogether great dining experience. Keep up the good work!
This is a very small and comfortable restaurant. The food at 1964 is amazing. Each bite is a taste explosion. The wine compliments the dishes and is reasonably priced. Service is very good I went with friends and unfortunately we were the only customers (Wednesday night) I really can't understand why it isn't full every night. More promotion I needed.
Something a bit different for Low Fell amongst all the Italian and Indian Restaurants. The food was amazing and the waiting staff were very attentive. It was a Wednesday night so quiet but I was told it gets packed on a weekend. I'm not surprised, if they carry on like this it will be packed every night. The menu changes every 3 months and we will definitely go back to try it.
The food and wine we had was delicious. I ate pigeon breast, beef Blade and pear and vanilla soufflé. I could recommend them all. You have to be aware there are very steep stairs leading to the restaurant, anyone with mobility problems would struggle, its not particularly attractive especially as its not a cheap restaurant. The staff were attentive and the food was well presented and overall I enjoyed it very much.
Third time visiting this great Restaurant with four friends for Sunday lunch. We each decided to Choose a different meat and everyone was delighted with their meal. It was beautifully cooked and the selection of vegetables was the best we have ever had.
