Lovely relaxed restaurant with great food and service. The food is very reasonably priced and with decent wine choices too. Highly recommend a visit with friends or partner. Local gem!
A very nice genuine French Restaurant, tucked away in Barnet. With food excellent. The sort of place one likes to find , as it is not on a main thoroughfare.
Pleasant atmosphere, friendly waiters and owner, and most importantly, amazing food, the salmon tartare on the specials section was a particular highlight as was the duck breast.
Exactly what you would expect from a French Bistro. Authentic experience right in North London. Adding some extra words to meet the minimum criteria for reviews
Chez Tonton is brilliant! If you want a really, really beautiful French restaurant, Chez Tonton is the place to go. Exquisite atmosphere! The sweet place for a couple to dine - French style. The food is so good. Its really good quality! Highly recommended for those dining out times you want great food - different from the usual. The staff are superb. They will make you happy to be there.
Visited for a relaxing lunch with my better half (and baby) - first real meal out since the birth. Charming idiosyncratic French proprietor. Excellent French waiter, attentive and sensitive to our needs without being at all overbearing or intrusive. Outside and inside seating available - we chose out. Escargots were tasty and tender, not chewy as I have experienced at other establishments. Gambas were moist and delicate. The roast lamb was excellent, my duck was a little more cooked than I like (but then I like things with blood coming out). Vegetables al dente. The selection of French cheeses were simple but well balanced, the accompanying small salad with walnuts an appreciated added touch. Crème brulee was creamy and unctuous, the mousse au chocolat similar. All washed down with a couple of kir royale's to start, followed by a thoroughly drinkable chardonnay and a bottle of champagne from an extremely well priced wine list. Rounded off with dessert wine and complimentary calvados, cognac and coffee this was a most enjoyable long lunch. We shall be definitely visiting again for lunch (and dinner once I can get my mother in law to look after the baby :)
M y wife and I were extremely pleased to revisit Chez Tonton after at least 10 years, the owner even reparked our car in order to save a parking fine. The food was superb and the service could not have been better, don't hesitate to ask for anything as they will go out of their way to help you. Try the house wine you will be pleasantly suprised and as for their "onion soup" the same as we have in Paris. Bill cook and wife.
Having been to this restaurant many times I am still waiting to find any fault. As usual we received a warm welcome and excellent service, we were a party of six and every dish was served to perfection. We travel extensively and dine in many fine restaurants paying a lot more for a lot less, but overall ,for good food, service, atmosphere and value for money Chez Tonton takes some beating.
We had a very pleasant evening at Chez Tonton. Food was excellent. Service good. If I were to be negative about anything, it would only be that it took a little while to manage to get the bill and pay at the end our visit, but this was a very minor problem and did not in any way detract from our overall experience.
This was the 1st time we had taken our 2 sons aged 15 & 20. They were bowled over by the food and the friendly staff and promptly told us off for not taking them before. It will now be their 1st choice for birthday meals etc. I had the belly pork with French Black pudding, well the black pudding is nothing like ours it is soft almost like a pate, absolutely delicious. My 15 year old had mussels and rabbit for the 1st time but tried his brothers steak and said that it was the best he had ever tasted, and would choose that next time round. Well done a great joint birthday meal. Will be back sooner rather than later.
