For several years now, to happy residents and hungry visitors to Hartford, mention of the word ‘chime’ has evoked feelings of comfort, excitement and pleasure that the ding of an old village church bell could never match. Blending brilliant food, fantastic wines and a unique venue on Chester Road, Chime Hartford is making a name for itself much further afield than Northwich. Floating effortlessly between wine bar, gourmet family restaurant and prime function venue, Chime Hartford is sure to provide the backdrop for a memorable experience whatever the occasion.

Chime Hartford, in the refurbished former post office on Chester Road in Hartford not far from central Northwich, is shifting the paradigm of what a wine bar can be. Chime Hartford is not a red-velvet den where bar snacks and small plates are about the extent of dining options. No, this hidden Northwich gem is as serious about beautiful food as they are about fine wine. Produce is sourced from trusted local suppliers and transformed with passion and care into a mouth-watering encyclopedia of choices in brunch, lunch and evening menus.
The classic cote de boeuf and gorgeous pizzas from Chime Hartford’s authentic pizza oven are hard to resist. But lesser known specialties dotted around the menu, such as wild boar pate with ginger, really enforce why people have started travelling explicitly to sample Chime Hartford for themselves. The space and design of Chime Hartford also illustrates how it is not like many other wine bars. Plentiful windows and skylights bathe the place in natural light during the day, and the sympathetic balance of brick walls, wooden beams and quirky modern furnishings makes it a cosy though not suffocating venue by night. Throw in the superb selection of wines and top-shelf cocktails, and you already have a pile of reasons to visit Northwich.
Great food, great service and lovely lively atmosphere!! Will definitely be back. Didn't realise Hartford had such an amazing place to go out and eat/drink. The bar downstairs was buzzing!
Staff were really friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. I had the burger which was really tasty and had it with salt and pepper fries which were lovely. Chime cocktails are also amazing and loads to choose from. Overall really enjoyed our evening and will be going back again
Excellent restaurant, beautiful food with lots of choice on the menu. Brilliant staff very friendly and professional. Would highly recommend and will definitely visit again.
Lovely food, great service, really nice feel to the restaurant it has lovely decorations, everyone is helpful, the food was the best part, really tasty, good verity and cooked really well
We are massive fans of Chime but our experience tonight left us feeling very dissapointed. We were met by a host who barely cracked a smile and took us to the bottom of the stairs and said go up and the waitress will show you to your table, we get to the top of the stairs and stood for 5 minutes whilst the waitress was serving another table. She then had no idea who we were or why we were stood there so then had to repeat everything said to the host again which felt awkward. The menu is not as good as before. I had crab linguine which was very gritty and the linguine over cooked rendering it almost inedible. I went to the toilets, the toilet itself was disgusting and there was toilet paper all over the floor, wall paper ripped, no hand wash and a broken hand dryer. When Chime first opened it was a special place but it feels as though there is complacency which has let it down. Decide for yourself but we will be giving it a miss for a while to give them opportunity to train the staff, improve the menu and smarten it up. A shame.
What lovely experience we had at chime! The host of the restaurant was very welcoming and bubbly who showed us to our table. We had a new waitress serve us who told us it was her first shift (you wouldn't have noticed as she was amazing), she couldn't do enough for us and was very tentative with no waiting! My partner and I had just returned from our holiday and were craving some British food so we both went for the burger which was as amazing as always! We love Chime as it's a beautiful decor with welcoming staff and delicious food (for a very reasonable price!)! I'm so glad we have somewhere like this so local. Can't wait for my next visit! I'd love it if they brought the white cookie dough desssert back, it was to die for!!
Chime is one of those restaurants that does exactly what it says it will... provides excellent service, delicious food and the cocktails are divine. They always strive to keep the customers returning by updating the menu regularly. Of course they always keep some old favourites but the selection of dishes on offer make it hard to choose and often it can be a test of wills not to order more than one. The cocktails themselves are enough to get myself and my partner returning; a personal favourite is the Elderflower Bellini. You won't be disappointed. A definite plus point is their willingness to adhere to any requests regarding dishes and customer requests.
Another superb evening out at Chime. I took four girlfriends who'd never been before and we all had a lovely time. The menu was varied and we were spoilt for choice and when the food arrived it was delicious. The staff and service was as good as always. Well done Chime
Had a lovely afternoon celebrating my sister in laws birthday, lovely surroundings, friendly atmosphere and prompt service, the cocktails went down very well and the food was delicious. There is only one thing I could fault and that is that I felt the music was just a little too loud, so we had to shout to have a conversation, but that didn't stop us from having a wonderful afternoon, Thankyou Chime :)
We had a lovely night at Chime for my dad's birthday. The ambience was great. It was busy but not too cramped. The menu was excellent. Lots of choice and lots of interesting dishes. The sharing platters were really good and enabled us to try a little of a few different dishes, which was a nice idea. The standard of the dishes overall was great and we had no complaints with any of the dishes we chose. We would definitely visit again.
This was my first visit to Chime. I experienced a very efficient service, the staff were friendly, the food was excellent and I enjoyed a very pleasant evening in a relaxed atmosphere. I will definitely visit Chime again and would recommend it to anyone.
As always great food, great service and not too expensive! It's so nice to have somewhere like this local. My partner and I took friends to Chime (they hadn't been before) and they absolutely loved it, they were so sad that they hadn't been before! If anything it was slightly noisey but what can you expect for a beaut place in a Friday night!
We needed a pre-cinema meal that would take just an hour. Chimes did the trick. Good variety, good quality, attentive and pleasant service, and with a starter glass of house wine which exceeded expectations. It's an old expression that you can judge a good restaurant on the quality of its house wine and here it was certainly true.
The food was excellent, very tasty and nicely presented. The price was very good for this quality. The ambience of the room was very nice as we were seated upstairs; on a previous occasion we were downstairs where the other diners were young with loud voices and the walls have little sound-deadening. Unless you want the youthful, lively atmosphere always ask to go upstairs. The service was very friendly but slow. Just a main course and dessert took almost two hours. Great if you are out in a group with lots to talk about but on this occasion it was just my wife and myself. This is the reson for not giving 6 out of 6.
Our 6th meal at Chime and by far the best meal we have ever had at Chime, food off the new menu was great, well done guys. Service was excellent as always.
Lovely food, great service and a relaxed ambience. Only one small criticism, the lady that seated us sat us at a high table with bar stools next to the entrance door when other tables were empty and we had my 71 year old father with us. The lower table next to us was empty for 90 mins during our meal and then 2 young couples were seated there as we had a coffee. Didn't detract from our lovely meal though, but we did ask our dad if he could manage the higher chairs in front of her thinking she might suggest the other table! No worries though. Many thanks for a lovely meal.
Upon arrival before we'd just about been greeted and were immediately advised we had to leave for 9pm Table was too close to the toilets and store cupboard Service was "ok" Food wasn't as described on menu, although we mentioned this and the staff did take great care to look into this to and were very apologetic No ice cream due to a staff member leaving the freezer open and ruining it all (75% of desserts have ice cream in them) Windows next to our table were opened without asking us (and it was literally 2 degrees outside, so we closed it) Staff competency levels were minimal e.g. We said we'd have a lemon tart if the portion as big, waiter said he'd check and a tiny tart arrived - disappointed An unfortunate accumulation of lots of little issues but also felt like the establishment is trying to be a great experience but lacking good basics (the staff and food levels are not where they want or need them to be) Would we go back? in a word no
Had a very enjoyable evening at Chime. Lots of choice on the menu, portion sizes were quite large so think twice before ordering a starter and main course. Food and drink (wine) reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and attentive and the the place had a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Lovely set up. A couple of our party were late and we advised as soon as we arrived. We were advised that it was okay but we only had the table for 2 hours. Turned out not to be a problem. We had a couple of the sharing boards to start and boy are these huge, could probably feed three. We then had a variety of mains steak, noodles, fish and chips and tuna nicoise salad. We were all very happy with our meals and no issues with the food. The service was prompt and attentive throughout. Would certainly go again.
Service, staff, and food, excellent. As a vegetarian I was delighted to find a good number of choices. It was a very cold slightly blustery day and although diagonally across the room from the door the cold rush of air every time it opened and rather slowly closed on, I guess, 'noiseless closing system' made it rather uncomfortable place to be seated. It was lunch time so quite a number of comings and goings. But everything else was very good indeed, would definitely go again but somewhere else on a cold day!
Had an enjoyable evening for my husbands birthday and it was busy considering it was a Thursday night. Lots of choice on the menu. There were a couple of things amiss, my husbands ribs had no sauce on them so had not been cooked with the marinade as you would assume so they took them away and poured some bbq sauce over them! My potato rosti was overcooked and hard to eat. The rest of the meal was lovely and the service and staff were friendly as always.
Great meal for 2, booked last minute, so much so the waitress hadn't even seen the booking yet, but as soon as we arrived we were greater like friends and shown to a table, yet another lovely meal at Chime, would highly recommend!
We had pre ordered Chimes Own afternoon tea, and it was delicious and great value too. The service is faultless and it is a lovely atmosphere. We have already booked again for next weekend :-)
The atmosphere in Chime is excellent, the food is very good and the staff always go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I would not hesitate in recommending the wine bar.
We arrived 10 minutes early for table which was booked for 1945. We sat and the bar and eventually we're sat at the table at 20.30 without even an apology. When we asked the manager replied "this is your table but this family hasn't finished as are taking longer than we thought" this was in front of said family who of course took even longer. By this point other tables were free but we kept being told no they are for other customers. Food was good and one waitress was really nice she was the only one doing anything she was taking orders and running round with food whilst the manager sat at the bar. I won't be going back and wouldn't recommend, the price is high for what you get food and service wise.
Fabulous afternoon tea Even though I forgot to ring ahead & specify our dietrey needs the team were obliging and happy to accommodate us Fabulous service...I will definitely be going there again Although it was a little noisy on the day due to the top floor being taken for a family event with +++children ...so maybe quieter through the week to drink my Prosecco! Cathy
Great service, great food + reasonably priced, will certainly visit again. The wine list is excellent. Chime is a wonderful place, something that has been needed in Hartford for way too long.
Chime has Exceptional food, great service, and great background music. The atmosphere also is very good, Spotlessly clean, we would highly recommend, full credit to the kitchen and waiting on staff.
The same as always when we went to Chime for a meal last week. The food was excellent the staff very helpful and friendly and we left having a superb time.
Had a fantastic meal at Chime, the food was incredible - absolutely delicious! The service was great too - knowledgeable staff, friendly and efficient. Can't fault it at all - amazing!
The atmosphere and service is warm and friendly, the range of the menu is brilliant and the food was superb. I would highly recommend Chime and I will certainly be returning.
Took my mum to Chime for the first time tonight and she loved it just as much as I do. Gorgeous food, fantastic service in a first class environment. Many thanks
Very enjoyable Sunday lunch, attentive staff and did not feel rushed. Very relaxing ambience which made the occasion of visiting Chime special. Would recommend as a venue locally in Hartford
My wife and I were seated at the table next to the store room, which felt like we were in the corridor with lots of people passing by. A little disappointing given that we were celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary and the table was booked at 6:30pm when relatively quiet plus reserved a good seven weeks in advance - be interesting to know how tables are allocated when 2 other couples were seated near empty window tables after we had ordered. Other than that, service and food was good.
The service was excellent and the food delicious, i had the Garlic & Chilli Prawns followed by Steak & Chips, (the Chips were divine). My husband had the Ribs followed by British Fajitas and finished off with a Chocolate Fondant. He said all three were delicious. Nicely furnished restaurant with a vibrant atmosphere. Will definitely pay them another visit.
We have a lovely Traditional Afternoon tea at Chime and we will definitely be coming back again soon!!🖒The Sandwiches where to die for and very nice cakes too.
There is always a great atmosphere at Chime, the food is good and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Would not hesitate to recommend this wine bar.
Chime is a lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Great value for money and great for families and couples. You are made to feel welcome.
Excellent atmosphere, attentive staff and superb food. Always consistently good at Chime with a menu that offers a good deal of choice and offers good value for money.
Great food, great lunch menu. Service was good but a bit slow, we were there from 1pm and told they needed the table back at 3pm, by the time we got our drinks and food and had eaten it it was 2:30, we were asked if we would like to see the dessert board, which we really wanted to! But then told we didn't have enough time to order one as the table needed to back, which was because of their service time.
We had a lovely girly lunch at Chime, greeted with a smile on arrival and shown to our table, service and food was lovely, we will deffinately be going back in the future.
First time diner at Chime. The food was amazing. Loads to choose from on the menu and very friendly and helpful service. Definitely recommend and visit again.
Lovely food, great atmosphere, staff really understanding when my friend was over 30 minutes late! Menu really good, lots of choice, and gorgeous desserts- lime posset was delicious! Service was timely, not rushed and staff were attentive , very pleasant and helpful. Only there for lunch but will definitely go again for dinner. Super!
Another great evening ! Beautifully prepared steak wraps and prosecco. Staff attentive and service just great. Thank you Chime, we will be back very very soon. 😁
The atmosphere in Chime is great and the food is fantastic. The Yorkshire pudding fajitas were amazing. Great to have place like this in the local area.
Very disappointing! I have eaten at Chime before and had a nice meal, but today was very different. It started with the starter arriving to share with no plates for us to eat the starter from and having to ask for some. My daughter ordered the CFC wrap with posh ketchup, when it came it was only lukewarm and no 'posh ketchup' on telling the waitress she asked would we like to have some extra fries instead, not what you really want to be asked. I ordered the Chicken and bacon salad with honey mustard glaze (smaller version), this came in a bowl that was very difficult to eat out of and the salad kept falling out and onto the table. The chicken was mediocre - and did not taste of honey and mustard. All in all a pretty awful lunch, not what you expect when you spend £28. I won't be visiting for a while.
Had a great lunch at Chime. Excellent service and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Food was delicious. Online booking was really efficient. Will definitely be back soon.
Chime's roast dinner is the best hangover cure. The selection of real ales and great ambience is a winner for us. It's our new favourite place!
Good food and great service. The new online booking system is easy to use. We've eaten at Chime many times now and always been very impressed.
First visit to Chime, we had 3 courses, the food was gorgeous, every single bit of it! Will certainly be back. Great Service, great food! :-)
