Manchester is not known for its Mediterranean climate, but at Sokrates Taverna on Northenden Road in Sale, there is a little corner of sunshine. They offer an authentic taste of Greece and Cyprus, with the requisite trio of fresh ingredients, time-honoured cooking methods and friendly, welcoming atmosphere. They offer an a la carte menu in the week and special events on the weekend, often featuring Greek music and live entertainment.
Greek cuisine is all about sharing and having fun. After all, if you’re going to smash plates, you need a lot of people to generate dirty dishes to be dashed across the floor in a fit of Zorba-induced pique. Sokrates Taverna on Northenden Road in Sale is a restaurant that brings a sense of sharing and caring to the Manchester dining scene, with their authentic take on Greek and Cypriot cuisine, as well as the whole ambience that goes with it.
Any Greek meal should begin with a selection of mezze, and at Sokrates Taverna in Manchester, they have quite the selection to pick from. Veggies will appreciate the hummus, tzatziki and skordalia, and carnivores can choose from the pastourmas, the Greek sausage, dolmathes and, of course, souvlaki. Visitors to Northenden Road in Sale in search of something more hearty can indulge in stifado, kleftiko and gigantes – the possibilities are almost endless. Booking in advance is recommended!
Fantastic food(we had the meze), fantastic service & fantastic value. repeat visit soon. Need to book as it gets very busy. The cheesecake with figs in red wine to die for.
Not the first time i have visited this restaurant. Excellent food with great service. Nothing was too much trouble. We would happily go back again in the future
Excellent as always. Great food and great service. The meze is great value and the amount of food is unbelievable. We would recommend this to anyone!
Beautiful food. Authentic little place. Would highly recommend. Credit to the staff also, You can see the hard work they put in. Thank you sokrates!
Many friends had recommended so finally tried. Many choices for vegetarian and they are delicious. We ordered the set £20 ppl, ended up £77 for 3 of us including one drink each and one pudding to share ( because t We were all stuffed have to take 2 main courses home). From start to end everything were excellent. Cheese cake was amazing recommend with Spicy fig source. Will go again soon but will order a little less starter and main course so can try more pudding this time.
Love this restaraunt, just been twice in last few years as we are not from the Sale area, but we always wanted to go back after our first visit. Lovely greek food and authentic cosy atmosphere. We had the Meze, and the amount of food you get is brilliant for the money, and it tastes lovely. Also very good waiter service.
We went on a Saturday evening, good job we booked as it was pretty full even at 18:30. We chose the meze banquet which meant we had a little bit of loads of different dishes. Needless to say we didn't finish it as there was so much even for 3 people. Great service and good atmosphere. Will go back.
Everything was fantastic! First visit to Sokrates but will not be the last. The dips were extremely tasty and plentiful, we also had the battered feta which was lovely and light and the spanokopita. For mains we had the Kalamari and the Stifado (both very generous portions) and the cheesecake and baklava to end. Cannot praise it enough
We booked same day we wanted to go. Arrived on time no waiting for our table. The meza we had, was excellent, too many courses but we ploughed through, thoroughly enJoyed everything. Great attention for staff but not intrusive would recommend this restaurant. Feel like we spent an evening in Greece it was good and we will return.
Stunning food and a traditional taverna feel. Awesome. We went for an anniversary treat having moved from the area and so have not been back for a whip. We weren't disappointed. We had a fab time, amazing food and have already rebooted. My huband reckoned their kleftico is better than all those he ate in Cyprus recently!!
