The City Merchant is no more. Unbeknown to me the restaurant had been bought over 2 months ago by a Turkish restaurant. Very disappointed as was looking forward to traditional Scottish fayre on Burns night.
We booked what we understood to be a meal in a restaurant that serves scottish food, especially fish. We were very disappointed to find that this was not longer served here. Instead, it was now a Turkish restaurant. We could not reasonably go anywhere else at the time we had booked as were going to a concert at 7.30 pm and the booking had been made to fit in with this. Nonetheless, the service was excellent, and the Turkish food was good.
Amazing delicious food and the friendly staff were impeccable 👌
We booked into City Merchant on line and turned up to find , not our usual - much loved - fish restaurant but now Turkish cuisine! Our first taste of Turkish & pleasant enough. Staff attentive and reasonable value. We are not qualified to evaluate further.
The staff were friendly. When I made the booking I didn’t realise the restaurant had changed hands as I had visited many times before when it was predominately a fish restaurant. I hesitated initially as my sister doesn’t eat meat. The staff encouraged us to try their restaurant and I was glad we did. I will return.
If I wanted a Turkish meal i would have gone there. Sort this site out. really annoyed. THIS IS NOT A SCOTTISH FISH AND GAME PLACE ANY MORE.... Humiliated by friends....
Rushed through our meal. Main course clearly cooked immediately we ordered and kept warm while we ate starters. Chef doesn't know what 'fondant potato' is, thinks its a plain boiled potato tossed in butter! Frankly appalling.
Our first visit to it in its new Turkish guise; my party of 6 was quite happy and would visit again.
A shambles - City Merchant was a restaurant serving good Scottish food - have visited many times in the past - booked through website which still advertised Scottish menus . Turned up and found that it had been converted to a Turkish Restaurant the previous week - left immediately Website still advertises as Scottish restaurant !
Would I go back. ? Yes without a real doubt
Lovely food, very good service, several gluten free options available
Great food and friendly staff. Reasonably priced dishes and specials were excellent!
Good quality food at a reasonable price. Pleasant relaxed atmosphere and attentive staff.
We had very nice food there, delicious, didn't need to wait. The atmosphere was good too. I liked that the market vegetables were quite fresh and crispy instead of overcooked.
