Ultimately as intriguing as its name, Coconut Lagoon offers something different to Clifton. Of course there is no shortage of Indian restaurants in York. There is, however, no other restaurant specialising entirely in South Indian food, with the vast majority of other eateries focused on northern traditions. But this popular and well respected spot on Clarence Street doesn’t rely on novelty alone, they deliver on supreme quality and amazing taste. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere welcoming, and the chefs showcase a clear wealth of experience and passion through myriad delicious dishes that will leave you promising to return for another South Indian sojourn. Coconut Lagoon is used to catering for functions and large groups so it’s a great choice for an event, though even for a solo lunch or romantic dinner for two you’ll be more than looked after with mountains of their famous fresh dosa, moreish uzhunnu vada (a traditional lentil doughnut) and long list of rich curries.
