It was my sons birthday and we received a complimentary glass of Prosecco. Good value set two course lunch menu with a good rib eye steak.
A very enjoyable evening with good food and friendly service
The children's fish and chips was tasty and enjoyed by the kids. Unfortunately the other dishes left us wishing we had also had the children's menu. My tuna nicoise salad was underwhelming - I had to ask for capers and the fish was not only overcooked but also tough, as if it had been sitting around for a while. My husband's steak was bland and needed lots of seasoning. The other two fish dishes were also mediocre though the sea bass was much better then the cod. It was my post graduation celebratory meal and we were all left disappointed.
excellent and prompt service which allowed us to get to Barbican theatre straight after.
Always a pleasure to come here before we go the Barbican.
We come to Cote across the country at least 3/4 times a month. However we didn’t have a great experience today for my birthday. We have been to the Barbican Cote before. However this evening it wasn’t great service. We waited a long time for any service throughout the evening. Often staff would ignore us so we would have to go up to the bar. My husbands meal wasn’t what we had ordered. The staff did apologise but that was all. Such a shame but don’t think I’ll visit the Cote at the Barbican again!!
We dined on Sunday, 3rd March at Cote, Barbican ~ which is our "default restaurant" when we are going to the Barbican Concert Hall ! We were grateful for our complimentary Gin & Tonics, but hugely annoyed to be told that (as we had been given free drinks) we had to order ONLY from the a la carte Menu and NOT from the prix fixe at £19.95 selection! In my view , a totally ridiculous restriction, which only served to give the impression that you were attempting to "increase the customer spend" for our meal !! Tell me if I'm wrong here !! On complaining, the Manageress said we could ignore this ruling and order as we pleased, which was the obvious step to take under the circumstances ! Please explain why you have this (thoroughly stupid!) rule in the 1st place !! Aidan Jones ~ 07766 700553 aidan1jones @gmail.com
It was a wet Monday evening, yet this venue was still buzzy with diners, just pleasantly so... Seamless service (which took stress from us knowing our train service ended early this evening), the usual good ingredients, well cooked and presented.
Excellent service and really tasty lunch will definitely return .
Having been to many 'Cotes' this one is very convenient for the Barbican cinema(s) and, although very busy, we were given excellent attention: the staff went out of their way to find a good table for us - thankfully away from the extra loud noise near the entrance. The service was impeccable - including rapid help when I knocked over (and broke) a glass, losing the last few drops of the delicious Cocktail of the Month. The waitress was delightful, polite, caring and did everything to make our visit comfortable and enjoyable, solicitous about the timing of when we wanted the wine and each course - and helping us with any indecisiveness on our part. Shame the food was not quite up to scratch.
The staff was very friendly catering for all our needs, the food was delicious (including the vegan option), and the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed.
Normally I write rave reviews about Côte but this evening’s main course was the worst ever. Worse than bad economy class airline food. Avoid the chicken parmentier on the early evening menu. Maybe it’s better when full price, who knows?
Starter service was fast but main course and dessert service was slow. Overall time spent in restaurant 2 hours. The duck breast was very tough and bland.
Always good service, great value for money. Waiting time is insanely quick and the food is enjoyable. Never had a bad experience. Thanks to all at Cote.
Lovely food - the pork and the duck were wonderfully tender and well cooked. Efficient staff, who, in spite of being very busy, were smiley and attentive. What's not to like?
Overall we were disappointed with our experience. We waited over half an hour for our starters, which only came when we prompted the staff, the mains came with additional fries, not ordered and our side order of beans was missing. The wrong dessert was brought to the table. We usually have had very good experiences of dining at Cote. The manager apologised and gave us free drinks and discount on the food which was generous but did not make up for the unsatisfactory experience.
Lovely meal excellent service loved it! Will eat there often great place
Excellent value with good service and tasty food. Happy to recommend the restaurant. The staff are always courteous and helpful. Ideal for pre theatre and cinema.
We took some friends to a pre-concert supper. Unfortunately there was a mix up in the kitchen and our main course wasn’t ready in time for us to eat it before the concert. Potential disaster was averted when the delightful manageress asked us to come back after the concert when our meal would be free of charge - absolutely wonderful way to look after customers. We are regular visitors to Cote Barbican and will continue to do so!
Initially we were offered a table right by the bar and the noisy coffee machine asked for another seat - there were plenty of tables and banquets, but we were offered a table in the middle of where everyone was walking past, so not ideal. I had mussels and wasn't offered any bread and when asked for it was then given a whole basket and charged for it. I like Cote and visit this and St Paul's quite regularly but was very disappointed. they also assumed we wanted dessert and when we didn't we had to wait an age for the bill. in hindsight I should have taken the service charge off
Nice atmosphere and decor, but the service was somewhat erratic, culminating with the presentation of a fougasse to one of our party as their main course!
Usual high standard. 6.15 sit down time but able to enjoy a leisurely meal and still be in my seat at the Barbican in ample time for the 7.30concert start time.
A busy restaurant catering to all sorts of groups of families and friends and seemingly all sorts of occasions. The food lived up to its billing and was well cooked and served by pleasantstaff. We were hurried along slightly as we had dallied over our starters and was handed our main courses promptly, once our starters were cleared away
Cote is one of the best things to happen to the Barbican the food is sensibly priced sensibly served and always consistent quality we have been going since it opened and have always had a great experience thank you David and Patricia
we had a lovely evening with friends - the restaurant had a nice atmosphere, food and drink are well priced and overtall a great eveninbg had
Lovely tuna salad nicoise and steak fries, that came with a free bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. The service was fast, the food arrived soon after ordering and tasted delicious. Highly recommended.
We booked for a meal before an event at the Barbican. The food was lovely. We left plenty of time so as not to feel rushed however we did feel rushed and my friend who cannot eat quickly was feeling under pressure. This is not to say the staff were not nice they were efficient and friendly but came to the table several times and took things away. eg used glasses/condiments. This is often the case in the city but sis not help to make us feel relaxed and enjoy the experience. I have eaten at several Cote Brasseries in places across the country and overall really enjoyed them. This was not my best experience but not awful either.
The service was so much better today, in comparison with a previous visit in November 2018 with the same group of people - table of 6 when we waited over 1.5 hours from having our starter to eating our main course. The food was excellent and our waitress was very efficient. All in all a very good experience.
We were extremely disappointed that the manager argued with us when 3 steak frites came ice cold. We heard another table send back their food as it was ice cold. We had come in after the concert at the Barbican and as there had been three encores and a pause because someone fell ill during the concert it was about 9.50 pm and we were told the licence for alcohol ended at 10pm However the manager kept arguing with us that the food could not be cold as it had come straight from the Grill. Well it was ice cold and had clearly been left standing not under hot lights and all three plates of food were cold, she made the same argument when she brought the fresh food. She did take 2 steak off the bill and gave us our coffee and three mint teas as complimentary But that does not really compensate for a disappointing meal and poor customer service. Not the usual standard of food or service we have come to know and enjoy.
As usual in the branch we had an excellent dining experience. The duck special was superb, tender, tasty with appropriate vegetable accompaniment. The service - our waitress was Sara - was faultless.
Great location next to the Barbican. Perfect for a pre-theatre or pre-concert meal. Excellent food on a French theme, not overly complicated, just simple dishes done well and full of flavour. Breton fish stew is one of many highlights on the menu. Service is always friendly too. If you’re in the area in the morning the breakfast is highly recommended.
Wonderful value...service was great. Very friendly staff . Will definately come again!
The overall experience was a great one. The staff were thoroughly friendly and the service was extremely fast, considering we lunched on a Saturday afternoon. Incredible choice of gluten-free dishes.
WE chose the barbican cote for it’s location, right across the street from the Barbican Centre. It was extremely busy but we were seated right away due to reservations. We watched for a few minutes the rush of waiters before summoning the greeter who seated us. He took our order and in a very short time we were served the mains of minute steak and frites and chicken with mushrooms and potatoes in a delicious creamy sauce. Both dishes were excellent and a great value. Because we had more time, we also ordered desserts, chocolate mousse and apple tart. The mousse was our favorite!! We observed other orders beautifully served and would definitely recommend returning.
Not the best experience of Côte, very loud almost overwhelming noise levels. Poor food quality and just a small effort would have put it right but instead I was left waiting and waiting for a sauce that never arrived yet you were happy to charge me for it.
Excellent service, very helpful waitress. Reasonably priced menu...good range of dishes......................pork good, nice Crottin as a starter. Aware of Barbican start at 7pm..... Don't force me to write more than I want to !
Again last night we were treated to good food and service at Cote. It’s consistently a good place to go with friends. Great value compared to other restaurants.
Table booked for a post Theatre meal , great atmosphere a real buzz to the place. The only downside was the inability of the serving staff to deliver something other than exactly what is on the menu. My wife ordered the salmon as a main with two additional requests, sauce on the side and served on a plate not in a bowl, mains arrived and her salmon had the sauce over the fish and was served in a bowl, we told the waitress who rectified it quickly and blamed the kitchen for not following her order which she obviously had forgotten about as she took it. Perhaps not a great problem but the reality was myself and our guest had to delay eating our mains whilst my wife’s main was recooked /replaced which resulted in our mains being slightly cold when we eventually ate them, irritating and in my view unneccessary We use various Cote restaurants in central London and consistency is good but I must say our food seemed below the usual standard this time, my main , Poulet Grill was absolutely smothered in the Mushroom sauce and the potatoes underneath had hardly been cooked, very soapy and bland, my wife’s Frits with her salmon were very / overly salted, not worth sending back as this would have delayed our mains even further. Minor things but enough to taint the meal
Service was slow and not particularly friendly, food was poorly cooked and main course lukewarm. Waiter couldn't answer basic questions about food which is worrying considering the need for clear and unambiguous allergen advice.
Excellent food and experience , I will be back for more celebrations!!!
