I visited here a few weeks ago for a wedding reception and as I was so impressed that I revisited yesterday for Sunday lunch with friends. We advised them that we had arrived and were asked to take a seat. However, 10 minutes later no one had taken our drinks order and so we had to go to the bar and order ourselves. Once sat at our table, we asked for a lamp which worked as it was a dimly lit room. We requested this four times but still left the restaurant without our request being fulfilled. Generally the food was very good although the roast potatoes were very hard, not crispy, seasonal vegetables a little undercooked and the Yorkshire puddings overcooked. We had a bottle of wine with our meal but even when we placed this in the wine bucket in the correct way indicating that it was empty, we were never asked if we wanted another bottle. In fact after we were never asked if we wanted any drinks at all! The bill was presented immediately after the dessert plates had been cleared but we were never even offered coffees! A 10% service charge was added to the bill and in our case this was almost £30! As we were with friends we didn't query it, didn't want them to feel embarrassed, but wouldn't have paid this had we been on our own as the service at best was average. To summarise, lovely place/environment, food very good on the whole but feel that the service could be better considering the price you are paying. I will however visit again as the food is worth it!
Food quality has gone down, had 4 cheese mac n cheese and was pretty tasteless. Fishcakes OK. Service was not as good as previous visits. Very disappointed, this used to be best restaurant in the area but now deteriorated.
Inviting, love the reception style dining, staff tremendous and attentive, food was delicious.
Restaurant was empty on a Friday night. Didn’t understand half of the menu. Massively overpriced. Sparkling wine £60 a bottle. Staff were polite though. You’re better spending your money elsewhere
Really good atmosphere, good food and a really singer playing guitar so all round fabulous.
Amazing food! Such good quality for the price, we thoroughly enjoyed it and felt so full when we left. We come often and absolutely love the BBL menu as well as the evening food. Very lucky to have such a lovely place in our town
Loved it! We both had a roast - the food was amazing. Great quality and generous portions
We all had superb meals, cooked to perfection. Service was impeccable as always. Looking forward to our next visit.
Staff were absolutely impeccable! The choices of drinks do lack in my opinion but that could just be down to personal preference as I didn’t find the lager very nice. (That being said mine was the first pour so could be that). Presentation was bang on, wait time was bang on, produce was bang on. My only slight moan would be that the Yorkshire puddings were cold but they were replaced straight away without bother. I enjoyed the visit but I do think the pricing should be looked at as there are establishments selling the same for a resonance amount less. (For a Sunday dinner that is anyway). The specials did take my fancy and some of what was brought out looked on point, but I have to question what the suppliers are charging if a Sunday dinner costs almost £30.00, and a rump steak the same.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Staff are wonderful, don't rush you to order, it's nice to sit and have a drink whilst deciding on your food. Good choice of menus for everyone. Food came out hot and was very tasty. Recommend the Chicken kiev and fillet steak. Deserts look small but are very rich. Would like a choice of something a bit lighter and lemony but that's just my preference.
We didn’t realise there was live music - we wouldn’t have booked if we’d known! Thankfully we were round the corner a bit so it wasn’t as loud / distracting. Service was absolutely amazing, staff were so friendly and joined in with a bit of banter, food was awesome, we had mains and dessert both really delicious. Nice to have a choice of a set menu or a la carte too.
Fourwards is always amazing . Great food and great staff that make you feel so welcome
Fabulous Sunday lunch, enjoyed very much and very pleasant staff.
Lovely restaurant and staff attentive and friendly. Bit disappointed with a rule they have whereby if one wants to eat from the set menu the other person in the party also has to do the same. We were not allowed to eat from a la carte as one of us chose the set menu.
Beautiful food and the staff were extremely knowledgeable when it came to food and wine pairing. We’ll definitely be back.
The young gentleman that served us all evening was very welcoming, friendly and looked after us. The food was totally wonderful and we had a lovely evening.
Excellent food, the most incredible pancakes, and service was outstanding as usual
Excellent food and service. Brunch pancakes were amazing! Highly recommend visiting
Warm reception. Happy to answer any questions about today’s booking and a future booking. Food delicious 😋
Food was beautiful. Just disappointed in the desert choices. The desert menu was mainly ice cream or cheese, a bit meh. The choices on the set menu were amazing but as we wanted the a la cart menu we couldn’t have these so we just didn’t bother. I get you don’t want to waste food but I don’t think it would be that difficult to have a larger choice on the main menu and just pick a couple off of this for the set menu
Table of four. Place is lovely, staff were lovely. Strict rules on what menu you can order from and all must order from the same menu or sit separately. Really strange. Overall, food was too salty, some under cooked and rather underwhelming. The best course was desert. We had sticky toffee pudding and were all happy with that.
After reading the Fourwards website our party of five hoped for an exceptional experience at this restaurant, however we were disappointed with the customer service, the ambience, and the very average quality of the food. Upon arrival we sat and ordered drinks and were offered menus to peruse. Our drinks were served and one “Diet Coke” was flat. When I raised this with the waiter, he challenged this stating that it had been served from a bottle. There was no immediate apology and offer to remedy this and this set a negative tone for the evening. The menu layout is extremely confusing; with no clear separation between dishes, and on the ‘menu of the month’ no prices are shown. There are two menus;’ “al a carte” or “menu of the month” however the whole table must pick from the same menu. Two people can’t select one menu and three from the other. This approach does not cater for individual dietary requirements or food preferences, and we would have had to sit separately to accommodate this. Three of our group had to switch to the “al a carte menu” and none have us have ever been to a restaurant which has such a harsh rule. Given that there were there were only two other occupied tables in the restaurant we were all seated next to each other rather than being given space and privacy. The meals were below average quality. The chicken kiev had a tasty truffle filling, but hardly any garlic. Oil does always seep from a kiev but the whole plate was awash with it, and it covered the accompanying vegetables. The onion rings were very soggy, and the salmon was covered in that many herbs they looked like grass cuttings. For dessert, two of the party had the lemon meringue eton mess which whilst lemony seemed to be 80% cream but you really had to hunt for the meringue. We appreciate the chef might assume that their food is flavoured to perfection but people like a choice. We asked for salt and pepper only to be presented with a tiny bowl of ground pepper and one of salt flakes, nothing was provided to administer the seasoning, so we ended up having to using our fingers. This is not ideal from a hygiene point of view and felt almost punitive. The food is expensive, the bill presented at the end of the meal was not itemised which meant it was harder to accurately split the bill plus a 10% service charge was automatically added. We always leave a tip; our waiter was polite and friendly, but we reserve the right to choose. We believe that there are much better independent restaurants locally and will continue to go to them in the future.
The place was well decked out, with the seating pre-dinner appropriate and relaxing, service was good and the meal, excellent, with lobster and pigeon to start, then the Masterchef and lemon sole for mains. Acoustic guitarist rounded off the evening with an Australian Shiraz that was good value / Cheers Daz n Sam x
A perfect evening . Some great food . Can’t wait to book again
A varied and interesting menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Very attentive staff. We didn't have to wait to served or between courses. Fourwards is our favourite restaurant and never disappoints.
From the moment we arrived we felt looked after. The team were polite, friendly and helpful. The food was so tasty, one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. And, unlike most Al la Carte, the portions were generous. Will definitely be visiting again.
Service, atmosphere & of course the food (especially the gravy) is exceptional!
Food and drinks quality good Service let down though, 40 minutes after finishing mains, plates not cleared or desserts offered. Real shame as three weeks ago the whole evening was excellent. Consistency is the key to returning clients
Fantastic! Why is it empty?? From pre-discussions about gluten free options to leaving this venue after sitting for far too long - everything was great! Our young male server was a complete sweetie, polite, helpful, witty & a pleasure to behold. All food items at the table were superbly cooked to order, presented well and delicious!! What value! Loved it, been before. Will be back. Thank you all. X
Everything was fantastic!! Specially the new fashioned cocktail Thank you
Lovely food and perfect service as always. Easily the best around in every aspect. Will be back soon
Amazing food. Great service and live entertainment. A really lovely night out.
What can I say will always be my favourite place I travel 40 minutes + to eat hear 10/10 Adam and Stacey always do high end food amazing love yh
We dined as a family of four (birthday meal) and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food. We had the pigeon starter and the masterchef main. Everything was cooked perfectly and was incredibly tasty. There is a great wine list and also lots of cocktails to choose from. I appreciate the effort that was made to make my birthday special, including a lovely card signed by all of the staff. Fantastic service here and all of the staff are polite and attentive. We will be back again soon
Huge portions of food swimming in dressing or jus. Flavours all jumbled up as a result. Live music at very loud volume spoiled the evening. Couldn’t wait to leave.
Excellent food and service we will definitely be going back.
Excellent food and very helpful and attentive staff. We had a lovely time.
The service was impeccable, William really looked after us. Starters were nice but both my husband and I found our mains to be very salty in particular the peppercorn and brandy sauce. The food was very rich and both of us have had upset tummies today. Nice ambience in the restaurant
We had a lovely breakfast this morning. The full English was very good and well cooked. The pancakes were amazing, so light and fluffy. As always, the service was excellent and very professional.
Always a warm welcome, followed by great food, the menu is always varied.
Beautiful Sunday lunch. A bit expensive for every week but worth remembering for special occasions
Service excellent food excellent wine great everything was as it should have been
Great range of food and service was excellent 👌🏽 Worth another visit !
Excellent choice Excellent food Excellent service Clean, tidy and widely spaced tables. Easy parking.
First time visit. (Sunday lunch menu) Pretty much perfect. Food was fantastic. All 5 of use chose a different main and all 5 loved their meals. Quadzilla of Meat was the star IMO but all were uniformly excellent. The person who chose fish commented on how well it was cooked. The only minor negatives? The bottled water we ordered for the table wasn’t cold and the round table we sat on was wobbly. Both of these issues can be fixed in seconds. The young, local waiting staff were excellent. A breath of fresh air to be served by young English people rather than foreign labour. All of them were on the ball communication with our table wasn’t perfect. Keep up the waiting standards! Overall, hugely impressed. An easy to recommend restaurant.
Took my 3 year old daughter for a little date night and we had the best time. The food was absolutely incredible and the service was amazing. Stacey, Adam and the team make you feel so welcome and provide the best service. Thankyou
Excellent service attentive when needed to be and polite. Would have liked more vegetarian choice
