Menu options are less interesting than they used to be and choices fewer. Presentation also less stylish than on previous visits and waitresses inexperienced and lacking knowledge of both the food and the wines. Thankfully the barman is very knowledgeable & helpful in selecting wines. Food still good but was excellent around a year ago. Maybe the chef has changed?

Amazing food, knowledgeable staff, lovely atmosphere. Food quality definitely some of the best I've eaten in a long time (and as a real foodie, I don't say that lightly!). The owner knows his wines and can recommend pairings with food. Will definitely be visiting again.

The best wine selection and quality of wines we’ve seen in a pub restaurant. The landlord Dave, is very knowledgeable about his wines. An exquisite meal and an experience we won’t forget in a hurry. Planning our next trip there already!

We were welcomed by Dave the landlord and very helpful staff for a birthday meal for my wife and friends, Dave had arranged some special Gin tasting for my wife as part of the meal. We had an excellent 3 course meal beautifully cooked, attentive waiting staff, dealing with our needs perfectly. I was surprised it was not busier, but then again it was the hottest day of the year so far!! A little gem of a pub. Keep up the excellent work Dave and Team

Looked after very well, aside from the olives being requested again. Having the menu marked for gluten free options was excellent. Friendly atmosphere and a great selection of gin and whisky. Vast wine choice from various countries. Good choice to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We will revisit soon as we have always been looked after whenever we go.

early evening catch-up with my mum - food took longer than expected to come out considering how few customers there were at the time - I guess kitchen were busy with prep? Food was lovely and could accommodate my keto diet (very low carb)

This is a little hidden gem. We are regulars now as the menu is so unique, the food is exquisite, fresh and interesting. Service is fabulous too. A must for anyone that loves a 'quality' food and dining experience.

A fabulous evening. We sat in the bar area as requested. We had F and H Bloody Marys waiting for us as we arrived. Spicy and gorgeous! The olives are delicious. We had a bread board, fish and chips and desserts. A brilliant evening. Thank you F and H.

Good service & excellent food, although a bit pricey for a village pub. Perhaps the extensive menu was too extensive and could be shortened to provide better value?

Visited for Sunday lunch as a party of six. The food was excellent , great starters and roasts. Sadly the venison had sold out by 2:30 pm. However the experience was somewhat spoiled as there was only one waitress covering the complete restaurant and bar area and she was appeared rather brusque and lacking in warmth. A shame as otherwise very good.

Had a great time. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. I would like to reserve those comfy seats near the fire every night!! F and H Bloody Mary is amazing. Loved the option of Prix Fixe, A la Carte or bar type food. I will definitely be back.

3 generations enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch for 4 on 16th December. Arriving for 12:45 the restaurant was quiet and clean with well presented and friendly staff. By 1330 the restaurant was all but full. The menu (including the celiac menu) was extensive and interesting with a choice of traditional roasts as well as vegetarian alternatives. We all chose the mushroom and tarragon soup served with hot crusty bread and butter. Tasty and filling this proved our downfall as none of us saved enough room for a pudding. 2 roast beef and 2 venison main meals served with excellent roast potatoes and home made gorgeous Yorkshire puddings. The food was well presented with a choice of vegetables served separately including, carrots, sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, red cabbage and cauliflower cheese. My request for extra gravy was speedily met with my own gravy jug too. Hot and very tasty it was a fabulous meal and while the menu looked pricey represented fair value. One observation, my father likes his beef thinly sliced, so if that is your preference too then be sure to request thin slices from you waitress. The wine list was huge. I could have spent 20 minutes reading it and must cater for all tastes and budgets. I chose a Californian Merlot - it was the ideal accompaniment for our meal. In short we spent £140 and had an excellent lunch for 4 as described above and finished with 4 coffees. Thanks Fox and Hounds - possibly the best Sunday lunch offering within a 10 miles radius of Daventry.
