From The South is a delightful Mediterranean restaurant situated on Commercial Road in Poole’s Parkstone district. This gem was set up by three gentlemen with a passion for the flavours of Southern Europe, and the food offering truly represents their love of food. The menu is uncomplicated, with Mediterranean-inspired dishes featuring lots of seafood, tapas options as well as some chef’s favourites like great steak and traditional beer-battered fish. If you’re heading to From The South for lunch, we highly recommend trying one of their famous French croques sandwiches, served warm with Béchamel sauce. Go for the Portuguese spin on this classic dish with Iberic chorizo and cured sheep's cheese, or try the decadent vegetarian option by the name of Ortolana which comes with garlic mushrooms, spinach and mature cheddar.
You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to dinner at From The South, whether you’d prefer meat, seafood or veggie mains. Their extravagant Lagareiro-style octopus dish is served in the most traditional form with new potatoes, garlic and virgin olive oil. The friendly service we received from the moment we entered the restaurant was outstanding. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and the pudding was exceptional. The waitress was extremely helpful and pleasant.
Excellent food and accompanied by very knowledgeable staff. Able to adjust any dish on the menu to suit each individual, highly recommended for a group of a couple.
Incredible service and amazing food....highly recommend this restaurant. The staff could not do enough for us. I especially recommend the tiger prawns and 3 cured meats for starters. Espresso martinis were also delicious
Fabulous place! We only wanted a light bite at lunchtime however I wish that I had been more hungry as the choice was amazing. The service was second to none - the waitress offered to take our coats as soon as we walked into the restaurant and the ambience - very colourful plush almost opulent furniture with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere was first class. The food was all fresh, locally sourced, immaculately presented and tasted fabulous. There are specials as well as a wide choice on the standard menu and it is obvious that the chef takes great pride in his work. I have visited many restaurants in the area and this place deserves to be in the top 3. Definitely recommended and I will be coming back to experience dinner!
The restaurant looked as though it had lost half of its seating as there was a vast space in the middle of the room. We were seated at a table by the door, which was freezing so asked to be moved as there were no more than 6 diners in the restaurant. The staff (although pleasant) appeared rushed and flustered by a large table booking that was due to arrive. So no sooner than our food arrived, they suggested they whisk it away even though our plates were not empty! The food was mediocre, we tried most dishes on the menu. The aranchini balls tasted simply of boiled rice coated in breadcrumbs. When it came to paying the bill we were asked outright if we would like to add gratuity and felt put on the spot in front of other diners. Very disappointed and not sure how this restaurant has achieved a 5 star rating elsewhere. Perhaps we just came on the wrong day and fingers crossed things will improve. A tapas restaurant in Ashley Cross seemed like a wonderful idea.
Lovely warm welcome on a cold evening...walking into sumptuous decor and on a fluffy door rug we knew we were going to have a good evening. Service was excellent and food very good. Our meals were made to perfection, every little detail taken care of. There was enough of everything. The cheese board was fantastic. Can't wait to go back.
Lovely food in a pleasant and relaxed restaurant with very attentive staff. What more can you ask? Our party of 6 all enjoyed our evening at From the South and will definitely visit again.
This was our first visit to From the South, really liked the atmosphere and options of bar and restaurant area. Food was really good so will definitely visit again to sample some more!!
Nice decor but lighting too bright hence the room lacks any atmosphere . Light music in toilets but sadly couldnt be heard within the restaurant. Food very good & full of strong flavours. Chef Arren very personable, eager to please and passionate of his good food. Cannot be said for the 2 members of staff. The greeting and waitering was far too serious & austere for this type of venue. A more light and friendly approach would be more welcoming.
It was a shame that the octopus was not available. We were asked to arrive later than our original booking time and agreed. we were still , however , kept waiting for a table and even a drink. Maybe some of the money should be spent on front of house staff rather than chairs. I would say lose the leopard print. I liked the music choice but it was a bit loud at times.
