Fantastic meal and service, very impressed with the standard and portion size of meals on the afternoon special menu. Would definitely recommend and have done to friends and family.
Highly recommended in terms of excellent service, very good food and remarkable value for money. Don't order too much food unless you are ravenous though!
We had a lovely meal in a lovely place. We would definitely go again. The staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them. Downside...ladies down a flight of stairs!!
What a great find, booked for 6 o'clock (they have happy hour until 6.30 for £8.95). Nobody in suspicion that means it can't be good, how wrong was I within half an hour the place was full, You know it's going to be good when lots of Chinese are eating there. Didn't go for the special although it sounded lovely but went for the £22 set meal. Great choices, fabulous food, if I had to make one little comment it would be some of the waiters need to come across a little more friendly but all in all would highly recommend this restaurant.
Amazing food but the service could have been better. Highly recommended, especially the whole braised aubergine and great veggie selection, including vegan food. Set meal was far more than we could manage and only £18 per person
Great authentic food with excellent service at a very reasonable price. The cumin lamb, spicy fish, and pork with green peppers were fantastic but there's a great variety of spicy and non-spicy dishes, as well as anglicised versions. Definitely worth a visit. Don't forget to try the tea :)
Very Good Food with good service in a nice place Food was value for money had a banquet would try something different next time drinks reasonably priced
Great little Szechuan restaurant. Very pleasant staff, good service and lovely food. Can get busy at weekends so best to book to be certain of a table.
The meal was spot on tried a dish i had never had before. the prices were very resonable for the quality of food. The staff were knowledgable and attentive. The restaurant is well decorated and plenty of room between tables. I will be back and be recommending to friends 2 small things stopped me giving a 6 Prawn crackers were extra fair enough but not even offered had to ask. No hand wipes offered after the starter which was finger food.
We had to wait for half an hour for our table even though we had booked. The food was tasty and cane quickly and was evenly priced
Excellent service and the food was awesome. Best Chinese restaurant we've been to and at a half the price of any other. Will certainly be back whenever we are in Newcastle again 👍👍
A great night was had by all. Quick service and food was very good. Restaurant was clean and warm very nice décor. Would like to go again.
Fantastic food - I went from Denmark to Newcastle just to eat at Hei Hei again. I highly recommend their mixed platter. Staff very friendly.
excellent food, very good service and a very good experience. even though it was NCL Rest Week, they provided first class fayyre. would gp again
My meal was really nice starter was amazing but my husband had curry and it was very very salty which was a bit off putting but we will try it again
A good dinner with fairly authentic Chinese foods. Good and hgappy young staff. I do live near N-u-T but i would return there if I visit the city again.
Lovely good and excellent service will definitely return it was restaurant week but normal menu was also good value you can also park free after 5
Splendid meal, great service, pleasant welcome and table attention. Food served promptly and of excellent quality. Large portions even for the Happy Hour Meal....best place to be. RJC
The food was amazing! Service and menu was great. Only negative is that it's quite expensive. A perfect place for a special occasion though. The set menu's in particular were fantastic!
Nice restaurant. Food and service are of a high standard. We enjoyed our Chicken and Sweetcorn soup, and Mixed Platters. The Chonquin Chicken was a large portion and cooked nicely, and would have been even better if it had more flavour (more onions, garlic, etc.) Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed with the Spicy Hot Poached Pork which was seasoned to death - it literally had so much salt and pepper in it that it was completelty unedible. All in all, a high quality establishment, and this is reflected in the very high price we paid. Probably would have had a better experience if we had ordered a different set of dishes.
The set meal reduced during resaurant week to £15per person offered great choice and was superb value for a lovely meal, beautifully served and just delicious.
Have eaten here a number if times and love the friendly staff and superb food served by this establishment at a reasonable price as well. Would recommend Hei Hei every time !
The Hei hei is our regular Chinese restaurant of choice when we visit Newcastle. The food is always the same good standard and the menu is varied and offers choices you may not get elsewhere, well worth a visit if you are in the area.
Excellent service and delicious food served alongside Chinese beer. We had the set meal and there were 5 of us so we tried a bit of almost everything.
I worked in Asia for 30 years, the final 18 years I was based in Shanghai, China. Hei Hei is the closest I have seen in The North East which is typical authentic Chinese food, which I prefer to the Westernised Chinese food you get elsewhere. I can choose many dishes from different provinces in China, which many people have not tasted. I took an old friend and his wife who were pleasantly surprised at the dishes I ordered for us. I have taken former Chinese colleagues when they have been in town on business and all agree it is the most authentic Chinese food.
Good service and great food. Value for money too. Overall, this was an enjoyable experience all round. Interesting decor with pictures of (a young) Chairman Mao
Varied, traditional, Chinese menu. We had the Wuhan buffet (bit like Sichuan). Food was very tasty, and the staff were very helpful. (Only downside - does not have accessible loos)
Very friendly service for my daughters 8th birthday. The food was excellent we had a banquet and everything was good. The salt and pepper prawns were my favourite. The group favourite was the shredded beef. We will be back.
Excellent quality.prompt service and brilliant staff! The food was delicious and we thought it was exceptional value for money. We will be going again that's for sure!
Great food - especially enjoyed the aubergine and chicken dishes. Really good atmosphere. We were served quickly by really friendly staff. We would definitely recommend it.
Amazing! Unreal food, service and price. Never disappoints and in my opinion is the best Chinese option in Newcastle. Duck I cakes are a dream!
Excellent range of meals on the happy hour menu. Staff were very attentive and food was delicious!
Great restaurant. Have been here three or four times now and quality of food is fantastic as well as service. Set meal is always a winner, we generally have the £18 one. Salt and Pepper prawns are my favourite.
Great food - great staff - what more could you want? A really great restaurant in every respect. We will be back! Thank you for a great night.
Happy hour menu two courses for only£8.95,great food and nice surroundings with pleasant staff, would definitely go back here. portion sizes were large. Authentic szeuchan Chinese food
Great atmosphere. Very attentive staff. Wonderful food, large portions and very good. Could not recommend this more highly. It's a small venue so can get very busy, but that shows it's populatity.
We had 5 dishes between us for our mains and all of them at least very good, one of them excellent and worth the visit by itself. Coming back soon.
fast service, quality food as ever, would highly recommend, lots of choice for vegetarians like me. A little gem in the many food outlets in the city centre
Great service, excellent food, you will not go hungry.A great restaurant and one we would certainly go back to next time we are in Newcastle.
We really enjoyed our meal, it was very tasty, there was lots of exciting choices and we received good customer service. We would definitely eat there again.
