Hen & Chickens

Took my brother's for a catch up and to show them what an amazing place the Hen & Chickens is they were blown away at the surroundings, atmosphere, staff & the food all of us can't wait till we can go again

Friendly service. Dhal and sag were good but chicken was a bit dry.

Was so looking forward to this visit but was disappointed. The mixed grill was ok but the curries were not good. More like spicy soup with bits of chicken. Naans were lovely though. We had only just finished our meal and were ushered away from the table. That would have been fine if there was somewhere else to sit but there wasn’t and we stood at the bar to finish our drinks. There are much better curry houses in Birmingham, struggle to understand the hype around this one.

Staff were amazing as with the atmosphere. Party of six, food was excellent and we had a great time. Thanks to the Hen & Chickens, nice darts !

Just a great curry beers and football, everything you ever want on a Friday night.

H&C is my favourite Desi pub but today’s offering was only average. Early table so being busy can’t be used an excuse. Specifically asked for the starters to be served first but they arrived with the main course. My starter was cold, as if it had been hanging around in the kitchen while the rest of the food was cooked. Nan bread was not hot either. Don’t mind paying for decent food and this place isn’t cheap. £80 for two for lunch is a lot of cash, least they can do is get it right.

The popadoms normally fresh and crisp were on this occasion a little stale. Otherwise the food was excellent, as usual. There were some issues with the system missing our order, but this was resolved immediately and we didn’t were given money off our bill to compensate.

Lovely atmosphere, there is always a real good vibe when dining here! Food was really good and the menu had a lot to choose from.

Food was good for the mixed grill. Lamb chops were over done for my liking. Curries were okay. Nice selection of drinks too.

Additional dish not ordered was given and charged for. Although it was only a long while after serving they told us of the mistake. One of the veg dishes had too much chilli in it so we couldn't eat it.

Purity Gold tasted like it was on the turn and the person serving me handled it very well. Although I did get the usual "well I've been serving it all day" she did give me an alternative pint of Jimbo and I later noticed that the tap card had been spun around so maybe they did take it off in the end. Food was, as always amazing but £12.50 just for the dish of jalfrezi (no rice) does seem a bit steep tbh.

11/10 definitely worth the visit if ever in Birmingham !

The mixed grills are now so so expensive! I ordered a Jalfrezi and it was so spicy but all they did was add cream to it! It was horrible. So so disappointing as we used to love it here!!

Love the Hen & Chickens. When we arrived, we were seated in the restaurant which I prefer with 4 friends. We all had mixed grill and chips and it was ace. Thoroughly enjoyed our food, drinks and the company. Upon leaving Gillian made a note on our next booking that we would like to be in the restaurant again for 8 of us. Looking forward to our next visit again.

The 4 of us arrived and seated in the restaurant, we had the mixed grill and our friends had curries, naan, rice and chips. We enjoyed it that much we made a booking to come back in August for 6 of us.
