Our evening - and at least 2 other tables to our knowledge, wasn't exactly smooth and efficient! We waited over 30 minutes before being offer a menu and even then we had to ask for a drink order to be taken. It took a further 15 minutes before our food order was taken (with the waitress not knowing what some of the dishes were!) and we finally started to eat at turned 9pm - our table was booked for 7.45pm! The food was good but, even for tapas, it was expensive per tapas portion size. We noticed that where other diners had issues - and there were some, the waitress seemed to engage too much with them which seemed to make matters worse. Overall - food quality good, extremely poor service and expensive so sadly no return for us and, a recommendation to others not to try it out. Sorry

Very friendly service and lovely food. We also received a complimentary liquor with our bill which was a nice way to end the meal, would eat here again.

Food was generally very good and tasty. One dish was a little cold but the situation was sorted immediately. Staff were very friendly. Spanish music plays in the background. It is good that this Harrogate independent restaurant was turning over covers the night before New Years Eve.

It was my first time in a tapas place and it was fine. I think tapas are not for me but it's no fault of la oliva which was just what you'd expect. It was a shame some of the tapas were unavailable especially my favourite fish anchovy.

Fantastic restaurant with knowledgeable staff and great atmosphere. Could have tried lots of dishes as all looked so good. We had 3 each and this was more than enough.

Really lovely place, food great especially pig cheeks and tuna dish. Service excellent. It's an independent restaurant too which is unusual and is a pleasure to support it.

The waitress was very informative about the menu and the different gins that were available, she was very friendly too.The quality of the food was very good and well presented. I wasn't sure which wine I should choose so she recommended a red and poured a small amount in a glass for me to try bearing in mind I was only buying a glass and not the whole bottle! I would highly recommend this tapas restaurant and will definitely be going back soon

Great atmosphere, great staff, and even better food! This is one of our favourite places to eat in the centre of Harrogate. It has a small, but excellent wine list. Interesting review questions - noise, a restaurant of this type should never be 'quiet, so I have rated 'average' which should be taken as 'just right'.

From entrance to exit it was a lovely relaxed experience. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. We eat out a lot and as a chef I can be critical, this food was hot, served well and tasted great.

Excellent modern Spanish Tapas in a buzzy environment. Only downside was that we just missed-out on two specials. A great alternative to the ubiquitous chains.

Myself and my friend visited the restaurant on a Friday night. We ordered a selection of tapas; patatas bravas, olives, a selection of cured meats, and the cheese and iberico ham croquets. The croquets were definitely my favourite. Overall fantastic atmosphere, delicious food and wine. Excellent service.

Portions are rather small for the price but it is all very tasty and the service is excellent. The toro Spanish craft ale is amazing as are there Patatas Bravas.

Great restaurant, tastey food and lovely service. The only negatives I'd mention would be the goats cheese and vegetables dish was a little strange, I'd have preferred peppers and tomatoes and courgette with this instead of broccoli and other boiled vegetables. Secondly the restaurant was very warm with no air flowing through made it a little uncomfortable as the Windows were shut. However, The Gins were fantastic and service was fantastic.

Food was great, at. Atmosphere OK, people watching good, rather pricey. Would rather spend £60 for 2 in glassier place. Service good, decor pretty naff, lots of old doors nailed to walls is not my idea of luxury!

Very good food, very tasty but the spanish meatballs were poor and the second portion of tortilla came undercooked (Runny in the middle). Otherwise brilliant!

Amazing paella, lovely food and very friendly staff. It was our birthdays so they gave us a birthday card on arrival and a lovely ice cream with a candle in afterwards! Little gestures that all added to a wonderful evening

We had dined at La Oliva several times previously and had been extremely impressed by the food, the service and the ambience. Unfortunately, our visit in September did not meet previous standards. On a Friday evening the restaurant was almost empty and the decor had been changed to rather a hotchpotch of nothing in particular - perhaps a sort of rustic Spanish but it could have represented anywhere. Whilst the service was efficient, the food was in no way special; perhaps we selected the wrong dishes but previous high standards were no longer being met. Whilst the piquillo peppers were succulent, prawns were over-cooked; a salad was nicely dressed but patatas bravas were ordinary. All in all, unless we experienced the restaurant having an off night, it has lost what would previously have been a maximum rating.

Fantastic food, probably the best tapas in Harrogate. In addition to the regular menu there are daily specials, all were cooked to perfection. Friendly and efficient service and a great atmosphere. Independent restaurants deserve to be supported, they offer something different to the many chain restaurants. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Modern Spanish Tapas. Delicate tastes shine through. Order four or five dishes to share between two. Good choice of well priced wines. Interesting gin menu although not tried. Very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

A lovely intimate restaurant with a brilliant Spanish Artist's homage across the interiors – food presented in a spectacular fashion – which tastes great. Tapas is always a bit pricey... these guys are no exception – but worth it. We were let down by a technical issue with payment at the end of our meal (another couple were having problems paying with card) and but we were left for a good 10-15mins without any explanation – or offer to take our cash. So on that front they get a 4... bit harsh perhaps, but the experience we had spoilt a lovely venue, meal and service up to that point! Sorry

I booked the restaurant La Oliva for my best friend's significant birthday celebration for a party of six. He has travelled extensively in Spain and the Balearic islands and I know Tapas is his favourite meal hence booking La Oliva. The surroundings are very authentic, rustic Spanish and the Staff were excellent. Flowers, Balloons and a birthday card had been left at our table for the celebration without any additional cost to us which was a fantastic touch. The food and wine were also out of this world and better than any Tapas the whole party had eaten inside or outside of Spain. All in all one of the best dining experiences I've had. It really is a place for something special. Thank you to all of the staff for making the evening something memorable for the birthday party.

Best tapas we've ever had. However, expensive, which would be fine for a special occasion, but portion sizes are very small. Service was very good.
