I have visited York on a myriad of times and occasions. My partner, however, has never. An RCN registered Mental Health Nurse her work is demanding and following the sad death of two of her elderly (Dementia) patients was in need of a bit of a break. Hence the reason why I booked. Whilst it was only a short stay due to funding it was received very well and I am sure will have helped to prepare her for her work once more.

Went for lunch on a Saturday in April. Inexplicably the Shambles itself was packed with people, yet the restaurant was empty. Clearly nearly everyone is missing a trick here. The place is very Italian and the food delicious. Portions quite modest, which is fine for lunch and prices reasonable.

The service was very bad, waited 40 minutes just for our starters to arrive which weren’t amazing. The mains were even worse....don’t order the mushroom risotto!

The service was sooooo slow. The bill was incorrect. The food was OK but the service let the night down. We had been here previously and loved it

Excellent food and friendly service. As it was Valentines day and extremely busy a few of us were having to wait downstairs alongside where other customers were eating. As there is no bar area we had to stand and wait around 20 mins before being seated it would have been nice to perhaps been offered a drink or nibbles whilst we were waiting to make this feel more comfortable.

Excellent cuisine. Cotelletto di agnello partcularly delicious. Red house wine very palatable. Very busy restaurant, but hosts worked hard at making sure everybody well served. Complimentary glasses of limoncello much appreciated.

Although the food was nice,we felt like a poor relation just sat in someone else’s kitchen. Ordered drinks which never materialised, but tried to charge for. Not an experience I will be repeating

A real Italian - varied menu. Two of our group had the Lobster special - superb. Perfectly cooked steaks. Friendly and helpful service - a very relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely return.

The restaurant said that they did not have our booking. The excuse they gave was that they did not check to see if they had any internet bookings. They were extremely rude

L'antica Locanda is a delightful island of Italy hidden in the Shambles. The food, wine, service, music and general ambience were all fantastic. Highly recommended for a truly wonderful evening of dining. Not to be missed.

Unfortunately the owner was on the phone speaking loudly throughout the meal which affected the atmosphere, the food was not up to the standards we have come to expect from this restaurant which was previously our favourite in York. Service was also quite slow. Such a shame.

Lovely little Italian Restaurant situated on The Shambles in York, the king prawn starter was delicious and my husband had the home made minestrone soup, the lamb cutlets were gorgeous, a little bit pricey at £7.95 for a single G&T but delicious food and excellent service would reccomend

I love this restaurant. The food is brilliant, the location couldn't be more perfect in a city like York and the ambient is fantastic. Don't be fooled by the usually empty ground floor; everything happens upstairs. Gianni and Adrian are excellent hosts; you will be well served. And do yourself a favour and try the ravioloni with lobster filling.

We had a lovely meal. There was myself and two daughters for lunch. I had seafood linquini and my daughter had fillet steak and other daughter had three course special which was really good value for £13.95. She had bruschetta to start and said it was delicious. then spaghetti Bolognese and then profiteroles. All our meals were tasty and lovely and hot. Thank you. Staff were lovely.

Good food and decent service from staff. Entire experience ruined by offensive, ignorant (and apparently drunk) owner. Lived in York for 13 years and been to L'antica Locanda many times. Never again.

After our third visit to L’antica Locanda we still love it as much as the first time. The food is delicious. We have had steak before, but this time had a chicken dish and it was spot on, with a beautiful sauce and accompaniments. The place it’s self is small but comfortable, the staff are very nice ant typical Italians, you can hear them squabbling amongst themselves in the kitchen but in a nice way, it’s quite comical to listen to them. We went for our wedding anniversary, it’s ideal if you want something special. We also came out with a gift each of Panettone. I would definitely recommend L’antica Locanda. X
